Carl Thompson is to make the first defence of his IBO cruiserweight title against undefeated prospect David Haye at the Wembley Arena in London on September 10. Terms have been agreed between both boxers and posters and ticket have ordered. The clash between the two big punchers is sure to attract a large following and guaranteed to be a real explosive affair.

Thompson produced the most dramatic one punch finish, even by his standards, in winning the title from Sebastiann Rothmann back in February while the 23 year-old Haye has stopped all 10 opponents to date and never had to travel more than 4 rounds. The way these two punch it is very doubtful this fight will go the distance, either.

"This is going to be one if not the biggest domestic clash of the year," said Fight Academy promoter Robert Waterman.. " Carl is a remarkable dangerous fighter at the veteran stage of his career while Dave is just starting out and the most exciting young prospect in the country."

Didn't want to see it. Carl is going down early. Haye will be way too focused to get caught with anything big.

I have to agree, but if the fight is made, I have an obligation to watch it. If it does go beyond 6, then Thompson has a better chance. Trouble with Thompson is that he has a porous defence and is very slow.

Thompson has very little left, other that his punch of course. Haye will start favourite but he needs to tighten up if he comes in with his hands low he might well get sparked.

I think I will be on holiday, bollox. I would probably have gone too.

This is one fight that can only go one way IMO. Sure Thompson has a punch, and while he has it he has that chance. But 95 times out of 100 Thompson doesn't finish the fight.

I fully expect a clinic from Haye in this fight.

Thompson is on a hiding here. But he has a heart the size of a bath so he'll probably hang on in there.

Exactly my thoughts. Carl is so fornicating slow these days and I think he'll get tortured. A puncher's chance (but what a puncher!). I wouldn't mind if it was someone I didn't like but, despite recent shenanigans and his complete failure to acknowledge his own faults and decline, Carl is a top man.

The only thing that makes me give Carl a chance, is that Haye hasn't been beyond four rounds.

If only it mattered. The fight is unlikely to go past 6.

Is it robert Waterman promoting? I am definetly going if it is at Wembley Arena. Although it may not last long, the atmosphere will be amazing.

lets hope its wembley then. I wont go if its barnsely that s friggin trek and with hatton at the Men the following month I wouldnt be able to aford the time nor money.

Exactly why I'd prefer not to see this fight happen. It's a step up for Haye on paper but I don't honestly think Thompson can test him.

There is a risk factor there but it's hardly overwhelming.

Fight Academy are promoting and I honestly think they should go to the venue where Thompson threw out the money punch to take out Rothmann. It's lucky for Carl and I think it's a good omen.

Let's just say this. Carl may be misguided, but he's a big boy, and he knows what he's doing. He fancies his chances against Haye, and he knows this is a big payday for him too. If he loses, he will most likely retire, and whilst he is taking a risk in with a puncher like Haye, he knows those risks.

Carl would probably be very insulted by the notion that he is taking a big risk, but that is where pride can be a dangerous thing. Maybe this is one fight too far. I just hope that if he is going to get stopped it is swift and clinical rather than a prolonged beating.

The trouble with Thompson is he seems quite prepared more than ever now to absorb whatever comes his way in order to land his own bombs. As he's got older he's got sloppier, not craftier.
