Matt Korobov vs Brian Vera

What is Korobov's team doing with this guy? How old is he now? He's fought once in 2 yrs since getting KO'd by Lee after winning every round in the fight. Now he's fighting Vera's corpse. This dude will be ready to retire by the time they put him back in there again with an actual opponent.

I don't know why he took so much time off after the Lee fight either. It wasn't an embarrassing loss or anything. Hell he was winning prior to getting caught.

He'll beat Vera up easy, but it won't mean much

This is what his career has been like for the most part....pretty disappointing.

He's 33. Top rank are ruining his career. It's the sane with that Egor (can't remember his surname but he's an unbeaten russian light heavyweight prospect) ....same with the unbeaten Japanese Olympic gold medallist Murata. They're all older prospects and he's matching them as slowly as he possibly could.

Westerners are tying Eastern Europeans to contracts and then putting them on the shelf... It's a tactic to keep titles out of their hands... It's only going to work so long... There are a few guys Al Haymon signed, then they disappear.

The guy isn't used to losing. He dominated the MW division in amateurs and then he was stopped by a pretty mediocre guy who he would destroy in amateurs. Of course, another boxer would try to change things, start over, get into the ring soon and earn another title shot, so Korobov got some issues.

Is that why the biggest names that HBO is pushing are Lomachenko, Kovalev and Golovkin? Nobody is putting these guys on the shelf.

Korobov is one of the best amateurs I've ever seen.
To adapt to the PRO game he needs a step up sharpish after this fight.

Korobov has changed a lot of trainers. I think he needs to train with Hunter who would make him more defensive to avoid what happened in the Lee fight.

I ref'd and judged some of his amateur fights at worlds and Olympics. I thought this guy was going to dominate in the pros because of his style and power but it hasn't turned out. Maybe he burned out in the ams.

Korobov has always struck me as a talented, cerebral fighter. Really surprised he's fizzled out as a pro but I blame his matchmakers.

Ya, I was always very impressed with him in the amateurs and had high expectations for his pro career. This wasn't a Zou Shiming case where the guy was obviously a light hitter with a style that didn't suit the pros; Korobov was a top-tier boxer puncher who looked to have nearly all the tools.

When you have a long amateur career and a successful one like Korobov (except Olympics) it's not hard to just get to a point where you had enough. He dealt with issues of his parents leaving Russia for USA while he stayed back to box for Russia.....maybe he lost the hunger...maybe he didn't need the money that comes from being a world champ...who really knows except him and his people.

Why get in the ring and get hit in a face if you lost the hunger and don't need money??? I bet he needs money, but doesn't want to fight anymore kinda like Ward.

Top Rank has done a poor job with Korobov, ruining him with meaningless opposition and low pay for years.

Postol has been inactive for nearly a year. Like Korobov, Mekhontsev has been ruined, fighting meaningless opposition for poor pay on undercards. Gvozdyk is very talented, but won't be given opportunities by Top Rank. He's not been on TV yet, even though he has a fan-friendly style.

Lomachenko was inactive for a log time, and has fought mostly meaningless opposition since Russell - he says he wants to fight more often, but Arum won't do it.

Kovalev is with Main Events and GGG is with K-2. Both of these promoters do a much better job with the boxers from East Europe. Golden Boy has had Shabranskyy on TV several times, and DiBella is doing an excellent job with Deveranchenko and Khytrov.

Devery and Kyhtrov aren't very impressive so they need coddling. Especially Kyhtrov. He stinks. Just like that other Russian who was recently badly exposed who's name escapes me.

Yeah that stiff. Trashed by a club fighter.

This guy isn't that great. If I didn't know about his amateur career, I would think he's a Friday night fighter. If Brian Vera is the Brian Vera in his first Chavez fight, he beats Korobov. Luckily for Korobov, that is not the case.

Any version of Vera wouldn't be able to land much on Korobov who learned his lesson.

Korobov won but didn't look great. Looked great early then gassed badly in an 8 round fight. Something is missing with this dude. Vera won rounds 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 but got knocked down 4 times in 3 other rounds.

Sounds like the typical Korobov performance

Korobov just earned himself a shot at Canelo.
