What fight got you addicted to boxing, if any? was it the first fight you saw, or did you just forget to turn over and end up here!!!

I always watched the big fights with the big fighters, like your average dude should do. It was during I think last year but maybe early this year that there was like 3 AWESOME fights in a row on Saturday fight night. I started watching that every week and when I saw Winky give a boxing masterclass against Shane Mosley, I haven't missed a fight since(unfortunately, there have been some stinkers!).

Used to watch the early 80's domestic Middleweight fights with my gran, Sibson being a particular favourite of mine.

But the that did it for me as a 9/10 year old was.....

Ali-Bonavena. Remember watching it as a child.

Always been interested, thanks to my Grandfather. But I guess probably McGuigan v Pedrosa - oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are corl - ing....

i'f have to go with hagler leanoard or hagler hearns. or hagler vs anyone. then barry and lloyd were about after that but the fighter who caught my imagination has to Nige benn.
he was the first fighter i used to sneak up late to watch.

I also have drunken memories as a 18 year old, being pssd in the front room after a night at the club, my Dad would come down saying would you turn the Telly down!

Me sitting there saying you got to wtch this Naseem bloke Dad...

But yep Hagler-Duran-Hearns etc...but it was that McGuigan fight that flicked the switch.

Like Mr Payne, i've got my Grandad to thank. Back when i was a kid i lived quite close to him so big family meals were a regular occurance. After the meal he'd sit me down and put on tapes of the latest fight or one from his collection. It was great learning from someone who'd seen guys like Zale live.

I was in the states, and happened to turn on the tv so see Tommy Hearns blast out the fearsome Pipino Cuevas in awesome style. Hooked for life.

I'd previously watched Ali, Conteh and Leonard fights with my Grandad, but it was the Hearns fight that really did it for me.

i see tommy's son has just embarked on his pro career also. (thread in the current scene)

Two fights.

Weaver v Tate. Needs no explanation to those who have seen it.
Ali v Spinks 1. Watching my mum and my aunt crying because Ali lost, made a big impact on me.

Tony Sibson - Frankie Lucas

Benn - McClellan.

Was interested in boxing before that but HOOKED after it.

I'm not sure specifically, always been a boxing nut as young as 3 -4.

However, some fights I can vividly getting the butterflies for include Bruno vs Witherspoon, McGuigan vs Cabrerra and Curry vs Jones.

Then of course came Tyson and Hagler vs Leonard which were the first global events which were not just in sporting papers but given a few pages of hype in mags like the TV times - oh how things have changed.

For me it was Benn - Eubank 2, i was at a family party when it was on and can remember all the blokes watchin the fight and going mental, still to this day i can remember feeling sorry for Benn as i thought he won that fight, oh well.

I was a casual fan who only watched Naz, Tyson and Lennox really. If nothing else was on, i may watch a little boxing. But then one day whilst flicking through the channels, i see Barrera-Morales on Sky. I've been hooked ever since. 8)

for me it was leonard-hearns that hooked me,also loved sibson,i remember listening to sibson-minter on radio 2 ,and then watching sibson wreck john collins soon after,happy days

Watching fights on gramps' knee. A healthy diet of amateur and pro. You blokes over there in the UK are lucky boxing is more than a blip on the sports radar screen. It was tough being a young fight fan in the 70s and 80s, even though that was a pretty decent age for TV fights on the American networks- back when stars were made on the small, free screen. Curry, McCrory, Honeyghan, McClellan and many more all had great fights on TV in the 80s.

I don't live near my gramps now but still tape and send fights to him - and he's pushing 95, nearly blind and deaf but still sharp as ever. And I'll be making the big trip with Gatti-Dorin tape in hand in just two weeks.

Watching the two Ali-Spinks fights with my parents as a young child had a big impact on me and I've been hooked ever since. Although untill the mid 1980's I only really followed the UK scene, Bruno, Jones, Honeyghan and McGuigan etc. Although I did follow Hagler from the Minter fight onwards.

Would have to be watching Ali/Norton with my dad. Those were the days. All the top fights on regular tv. No paying for HBO to watch them.

That's a good question.

I remember watching Tyson's early fights, Lloyd Honeyghan, McGuigan against Cruz, Hagler v SRL with interest when i was a youngster.

But i think the turning point from being a fan into a fanatic was....

Barrera vs Morales I

Since then i've started taping all the boxing i can. Spend too much time on boxing websites and even took up boxing myself. It's the only reason i give Sky 40 quid a month too.

It still is probably the greatest fight i that i've watched as it happened, i still get almost as excited as the first time every time i watch it.

My mothers cousin married Ken Buchanan. that coupled with my grandfathers interest in the sport.
