Griffiths vs Curvis
10 - 9 - Tight opener, just slightly more coming from Griffith
9 - 10 - Curvis throwing in clusters. Not a lot behind his punches, more sting to Griffith counters but a sufficient volume landed to with the round
10 - 9 - Both fighters slipping punches well but Griffith landed a couple of nice right hands.
9 - 10 - A few nice left hands from Curvis nicked an otherwise close round.
10 - 9 - Griffith looking the better fighter and landing the more solid blows, looks a heavier puncher than his record suggests
10 - 8 - I had Curtis winning this before the body shot took him down, must be sickening when that happens
10 - 9 - Clear Griffith round with a brief response from Curtis towards the final bell
10 - 9 -Griffith constantly backing his man up and hurting him with body shots. Referee has bizarrely stroked his hair any time he talks to him...
10 - 9 - Another Griffith round
10 - 8 - Body shots killing Curvis here. As the commentator note, the second he has some success, he gets a body shot to shut him down again
9 - 10 - Fantastic effort from Curvis, clearly hurt and well beaten but dug deep and did enough to win it. a few nice shots in among it.
9 - 10 - I honestly thought it was becoming one way traffic a couple rounds back, but Curvis has plenty of fight left in him.
10 - 8 - Great round, I'm sitting here shouting at the computer for a fight I know the outcome of. Great start for Curvis but Griffith came back into it and sickened him again with those body shots
10 - 9 - Huge round for Griffith. Curvis left it all in the ring in the previous few and the body shots have really taken their toll
9 - 10 - great effort in the last round by Curvis, think he might have hurt him a little. but too little to late
145 - 137 to Griffith.
I've seldom got so involved in a recorded, 52 year old fight and one that I knew the result of before I turned it on.
I was willing Curvis to dig in and actually found myself shouting "go on son" at the screen
Griffith hurt him too often and in today's scoring I gave him that by a wide margin.
I would be interested to see how the scoring of the day might have had it, if knockdowns never swung a round by 3 points.
Because of the 3, 10-8 rounds, twice I had Curvis ahead and once he was starting to come into in when he took the body shots.
But I really liked Griffith's body work. Not someone who goes looking for it, stretching and reach round the elbows. He just took the opportunities when they presented themselves, the body shots just looked like a natural part of his arsenal instead of a tactical weapon or something he purposely looked for, he targetted the head and when Curvis threw a shot and left the target open he got punished downtairs.
Admittedly, towards the end, Griffith knew he had him hurting and used it when Curvis was getting into the fight after a good 11th and 12th round.
Griffith also looked a far more hurtful puncher than his low KO record suggests, his body punches were punishing and he rocked Curvis's head back a few times too.
