I always hear this question especially from Bunce. Who did you admire or fear as an amateur? I was a top junior amateur and won everything available to me in my location as a junior. My first tournament as a senior was a thing called the Western Districts which was a very difficult tournament to win. I beat a guy(fairly comfortably) who I always thought to be a bit of a wrecking ball! James Toll. He was incidentaly from the same scheme as me and was built like a man when I was a boy!

I remember Carr and Coyle. Can't remember the other fella. The two I do remember were pro when I was an am.

In fact I may be talking wet. I think Coyle started pro late didn't he? I don't remember him him on the am circuit...

I'm no too sure how old coyle was when he turned pro,I'd guess 24 or 25,joe townley boxed for Cleland miners,I'm sure he turned pro as well,another good am was colin brown from gartcosh super heavyweight I'm sure he won Scottish 4 or 5 years on trot turned pro but not sure what happened with him

I remember Cleland minors. I boxed against a lad from there as a junior. Can't remember his name now. Small world!

Mark Reigate, Nigel Travis.... Over 100 bouts a piece and proper warriors.

Noel Wilder's was my amateur bogeyman got pretty much outclassed by him twice, once in the ABAs, had some slippery southpaw moves did noel

i thought you might of been nigel travis mate ,i boxed lots with mark and on a show with Travis it was like an amateur hagler vs hearns both were hurt and Nigel won i think by ko in the 3 but it was 23 years ago

i had the pleasure of training a young martin(london irish) when he was 13ish at a NABC training camp he was the most natural boxer i think i've ever seen .

Anecdotes like that are what keep me coming on this forum despite my declining interest in and consuming of boxing

I use to get to all the Scotish shows as well, some good nights of fighting he was on a good run and a great win over Elcock....

Used to remember a guy who thought he was a white version of Mike Tyson, he had his very own entourage of people and young girlfriends following him around at his fights, he used to knock everybody out! then got knockout himself a few times, never saw him again? around the Midlands area? this was the early 90s. can't remember his name, anybody remember him?
