no matter mayweather, ward or other so called master technicians. i have nothing against upper body movemant, excellent footwork, lateral moving and classic boxing technic, like block a punch and counter.
but so many tactics called as technicly phenomenal are simply a mix of running, holding, head butting and turning his back or head in order not to get punched. all illegal stuff and normaly you get points deductions or dqs, but when you the super star, you do what you want, cause boxing till this day is a criminal sport.

Lomachenko is a pure master technician. Mayweather and Ward are a mix of a master technician and a dirty fighter with Ward being mainly a dirty fighter.

I agree many people confuse athleticism and movement for 'boxing'

To be a master technician you should at bare minimum be able to defend yourself without moving your feet, throw every punch effectively with either hand, adapt your style to boxing on the front foot or back foot, and not have a style of movement that is wasteful of energy

Surely though using footwork is a big part of evading punches ie taking a step back and countering. I'm not talking about out and out runners.
Most fighters aren't going to have the ability to roll under and Slip punches like a prime James Toney used to do.
The Arthur Abraham "have your gloves stuck to your head" style of defence isn't overly appealing either imo.

Yes, its a part, but if you cant defend yourself at times WITHOUT footwork, if you can't slip and roll and parry, you are not a master technician.

I think there's very few of those about full stop.

Years ago I was clowned on message boards for saying Judah wasn't 'slick'. Not my fault they all overrated him, he's one of the most consistent fighters of the last few decades. Paulie is another one. My buddy calls them 'fake boxers'. That's apt when not taken out of context.

The best technician in Boxing is Lomachenko ... and a lot of so called top trainers, boxers, and pundits don't know WTF they're talking about.
Gennady Golovkin is a great technician and showed it best with his jab and footwork in the Lemieux fight... But De La Hoya was telling the press before the fight, "David has sparring partners who can box better than Golovkin. Mark my words David Lemieux is knocking Triple-G out." ... Before Canelo fought Floyd, Oscar told Floyd, "My fighter is going to kick your ass." ... Oscar really believed Canelo was going to beat Floyd somehow. Or maybe you just have to say that in that situation.. I would take the fight just for the money. There was no way Canelo was getting hurt or knocked out.
But I remember Bryant Jennings leaving his trainer after the Klitschko fight for John David Jackson...who is one of the top trainers in the sport.. The next thing I know Jennings is being matched with Luis Ortiz.. That's the last matchup I would make for Jennings.. I remember Chris Algieri leaving his trainer after the Pacquiao fight and hooking up with John David Jackson.. He was matched appropriately at first -- but all of a sudden he's going to fight Errol Spence.. I don't think trainers like Mayweather Sr or Eddie Mustafa Muhammad are going to allow that matchup -- but Mayweather did let Ricky Hatton fight Manny Pacquiao.. A lot of money, but for me, that was a death sentence.. You better quadruple your life insurance if you're Hatton.

I'm a card carrying member of the Floyd Hate Club but I can't agree with you that Floyd is NOT a master technician. Love him or hate him, he's got the best technique i've witnessed in 40 years of following the sport. If you take that "shoulder roll" defense out of the mix, his ability to bob and weave and make people miss was amazing. That and the sneaky straight right that he made millions on is one of the best punches in boxing history. Every opponent fell for it.
Catch and Throw. That's what makes a great boxing technician. Not many people have that ability and when you see it, it's beautiful. We've seen Manny, catch a punch with his right hand, immediately counter it with a right hand and then duck out of the way of the returning punch. Floyd and Manny do it all night and only the truly special ones can do this effectively. That's being in full control of your opponent inside the ring and it's beautiful to watch.
