Against Santa Cruz, where does THAT win place him on the all time list of fighters from the Emerald Isle?

I remember Barry winning his title & how much fuss it caused in the pub I spent half my childhood in (where my mum worked - The Eagle on Red Lion Lane on Shooters Hill) but my favourite was Dave McAuley who only won 75% of his first 16 fights but went all action in his last 7 bouts - a bit like Stevie Collins.

I think he's the best fighter from over there now, certainly the most gifted I've ever seen.

Agree. It's a big big ask against LSC though. If he's on form he has certainly got the skillset to win the fight but it will need to be a near flawless performance to get a decision over there. Can't see him stopping the bigger man.

He's already in the top three as it is.

I am a massive Frampton fan and been to many of his fights but I don't think he can seen as being in the top 3 or greatest Irish fighter off all time just yet. Don't see him above Jimmy McLarnin, Rinty Monaghan, Dave McAuley, Barry McGuigan, Wayne McCullough, Steve Collins, Johnny Caldwell & Freddie Gilroy at the moment.

He's behind McLarnin & Collins.

If he had any pride he would have fought Rigondeuax and attempted to prove he was the "world champion". Completely lost respect for him when he moved up to avoid him.

Yeah I think he's proud of his dual background/heritage. He has fans from both sides in Ireland and all over Britain just like his mentor McGuigan. He's just a very likeable guy. Apparently they've taken to him well in New York as well. Really hope he does this

I think he comes across well in interviews, seems inteligent and pretty down to earth.

From my own experience that couldn't be further from the truth. I've met him a few times and he's always had plenty of time to stand and chat. Got a signed glove and poster, pics with him. When he found out I had boys who were in to the boxing he got a couple of bags of bits n pieces to give to my two boys. In any case I think he comes across very well on TV as well. Each to their own.

Yeah he's one of my favourites too,pretty funny as well from what ive seen on twitter

Would he be the frontrunner for world fighter of the year with a win? I imagine that the Ward-Kov winner (if it happens) would overtake him, but Quigg and LSC in one year is pretty damn good in today's scene.

He'd be in with a shout no doubt. Still only July so if he manages the win and comes through unscathed I expect he'll be out again in Nov/Dec probably against Selby. If he were to win that then you couldn't argue against him winning fighter of the year.

I've never seen a McGuigan fight apart from his loss to Cruiz (when fight in a car park in the miday sun in Vegas?) so can someone tell me why he's so highly regarded and maybe Irish number 1?

His record doesn't jump out as being spectular, not like Wayne's?

Well if he is a phony, he is very good at it. Met him a couple of times at charity functions. Plays the sponsor crowd well, and generally gives a good account of himself. An acquaintance of mine offered a moderate sum to the charity if he'd spar his teenagers. He accepted, and a couple of weeks later, his boys had a really fun afternoon.
