Ortiz-Ustinov and Fury-Klitschko winners would collide to earn the right to face Oquendo

Fantastic line from WBA press release:

"The WBA World Championships Committee has stripped WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev of his title. Chagaev was gifted back the title after a KO loss to Lucas Browne when Browne failed a drug test, but Chagaev’s team was unable to take advantage of the situation by failing to finalize a WBA-mandated rematch with Fres Oquendo, which included getting current on past-due sanctioning fees.

The WBA has an ongoing heavyweight tournament to establish a single champion. If the brackets stay as they are, the 43-year-old Oquendo would now make the final sometime in 2017 without any fighting in any of the earlier rounds.

The other bracket features WBA “interim” heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz against Alexander Ustinov on September 17 (although there may be some problems with that bout, as well) and the rematch between WBA “super” heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko. The Ortiz-Ustinov and Fury-Klitschko winners would then collide with the winner earning the right to face Oquendo."

I think Wlad, Fury and Ortiz can't wait to earn the right to face such an ATG HW as Fres "Money" Oquendo. This is a big chance for them to build great legacy and earn huge money

That's not from the WBA press release, but an article *about* the WBA press release, right? No way they would emphasize that Chagaev was "gifted" back the title, and the fact that Oquendo can make the final without fighting.

Thank YOU SportsRatings (you both have nice handles there!).
The WBC WBA IBF WBO in my book [the ONLY book that MATTERS!] are the real world championships. Every thing ELSE needs better IDEA! We are ruining boxing!
This THREE TIER champs stuff got to go out. Anyone who participates becomes a part of the CLOWN ACT!
My only Seven names that matter in Heavyweight div. presently (in no order) PARKER JOSHUA WILDER WALD.K. HAYE POVETKIN FURY.
And, boxing's five current mega stars: (six w/May) Manny, Ward, *Golovkin, Alvarez, Kovalev. *administratively have "dillinquency" there!

Jesus, "earn the right to fight Fres Oquendo" - everything thats wrong with boxing right here. Is Oquendo even a top 20 HW?

Why HAYE? And no Ortiz?

Also, Manny a mega star? Still? Really? 4-3(0) since 2012 and Bradley 3 ppv figures tell a different story

You know, I often/often/often hear the same. Nah! He has only two top wins and one is SR.Cit. and the other is feignt also. (Memory? I get off of here I'll look)
Ortiz- Lucas Browne, Andy Ruiz good second category.
Ortiz looks like Super-man and they WISH HARD!
Is Haye-Shannon happening? Shannon vs Ortiz would catch eyes..

I can't confirm anything that I say here because I don't have any proof. I have heard multiple rumours about this tourney. I have heard since Browne's suspension is up in September he will be fighting Oquendo. If you look in the past Toney, Botha & Ortiz have all got title shots after their suspensions were up following title wins. None of them had to work their way up the rankings & since Chagaev retired it wouldn't surprise me if Browne stepped right back in to the tourney. The second rumour I heard was that Haye would step in & fight Oquendo since he is the next highest ranked guy & the Briggs fight would be nullified. I also heard the winner of Haye & briggs would fight the winner of Browne\Oquendo to finalize this side of the bracket. Briggs is ranked right behind haye. I have even heard Browne & Haye could fight with the winner getting oquendo. All sorts of rumours but no concrete evidence of what is going to happen. What about the Fury alleged PED fail? I think the winner of Wlad\klitschko 2 will vacate the WBA title & go for a bigger fight then fight Ustinov, Ortiz or Oquendo. None of those fights bring in the money. This whole tourney has been a mess since the beginning...

Oh. Yes! Your right. Two match return only both light touches. 31-1-1 Mark de Mori and then the "truly less" w/this 29-0-0 Gjergjaj. [MATCH THOSE TWO I'LL LIKE TO SEE IT!]
Still I give it to him though! Past accomplishments. You KNOW as well as I that Haye is dangerous GUY.
Where did it go the match V Shannon??

I expect Haye to chicken out, too much of a risk for Haye, especially if Haye can achieve his belt chances by letting Gjergjaj and de Mori ish guys taking a dive.

I can't believe Chageav wasted his opportunity to be WBA champion by already being retired, with health issues.

Why does Oquendo's name always crop up?

He hasn't had a fight in like 3 years and was shite anyway.

If things don’t plunge any further, Fres Oquendo will get a chance to be the undisputed WBA champion. Let that sink in.

Boxing tournaments: not even once.

Past accomplishments? Are we talking about beating Valuev? Or losing to Klitchko? They're both pretty weak accomplishments.

I guess you don't count his Cruiserweight days hey! Dereck Chisora match worth a few rating bucks. WHEN (at the time of match) he foughtAudley Harrison Audley was 27-4-0 and KO'd once only (vs MSprott reversed FIVE YEARS FORWARD). Of course, since then he has been completely destroyed.
You don't count Ruiz medium!
Valuev was -what?- 50-1-0 then??
Haye has had tactics at times that's for sure! He's 28 (26 KO's)-2-0.
Yeah I think it's a good placement. He is the kind of a star you can't really know what to expect. Sure he might fall out. Little bit of LIFT by bombast. Dangerous? Yes I expect so.
He's in until.....mis-step and he loses then, he'll fall.
That injury he had vs Wladimir?Yeah. I do think a injury like that gonna effect how you preform 100%.
