"reports are that Daniel Geale will fight Renold Quinlan for IBO Super Middleweight title in October"
Not sure how Daniel gets these fights.
He has to fight first at SM surely?

Logically? Yes. But not surely.
Many fighters have jumped up a division and fought for the title straight away.
One recent example was early last year, when Sakio Biko jumped from super middleweight to cruiserweight and fought Adonis Stephenson for the WBC in his first fight up.

I wouldn't compare it to challenging for a lineal LHW WBC belt, or making a challenge like Cotto or Brook, Geales fight is for a vacant IBO, I remember Adonis Stevenson being a Light Heavy & moved up to that division from being a super middle in 2012, also Quinlan had been campaigning at middle before moving up to Super Middle

The question raised by the OP was : "Not sure how Daniel gets these fights".
The point I was making is many fighters have fought for titles first fight up in a new weight division as Geale is. You are supporting that argument

It would amaze me if people think this fight is a step up, winner should face Zac Dunn

Who thinks the fight is a step-up? I just see it as Geale's first foray into a new division.

I'm sure many will, the IBO has historically been a handy tool the last decade to convince the Australian public

Not sure how anyone could see this as a step-up fight for Geale when Cotto and Golovkin are amongst his most recent opponents?
Step up in weight division yes. Step up in level of opponent no.

I cannot for the life of me work out why team Quinlan would even take this fight because his lack of experience will bite him on the ass big time at some point during this fight you'd imagine Quinlan could kick on with his career and be a world title threat down the track but right now they seem to be putting the cart before the horse for this fight anyway its a big step up for Renold while Geale looks for 1 or 2 big fight's before he calls it a day good luck to both boy's and I should say to team Quinlan good on ya for stepping up

I can understand Quinlan taking the fight it's a great opportunity considering Geale will be questioning his mentality after quitting in his last 2 outings.
I'd be questioning why Geale took the fight when there's 3 other OZ fighters above Quinlan in Murdoch Caparello & Dunn

After the Cotto fight, Geale needs a confidence building win. Much as he did after the Golovkin fight, when he fought Fletcher next up.
Should Geale get past Quinlan comfortably enough at his new weight I'm sure he will then look at fighting higher ranked super middleweights.

Dunn dumped the belt so he's out

Correct. Dunn has his eyes on a bigger prize, and Avni Yildirim may be his next step toward it.

Fighting sparring partners like Fletcher & Wood will do very little for confidence on the International scene, Geale know exactly where he is at fighting Quinlan, having Carr a regular in his gym

Geale got valuable rounds in against Fletcher and had his confidence restored enough to agree to tackle Cotto.
Now he is back in the same position, all be it in a different division, needing rounds, a win and some confidence.
Carr has been training in the US at Fortune gym for months. He will make his US debut against Mike Gavronski on September 10th.

Yes I can understand also its like that in life same as sport you need to take your chance's when you given them but Renold doesn't even fight that much and the best he's fought is Carr and that's a few levels below Geale it can only end one way and that's a win for Geale.

If Geale doesn't win he will retire. I think that goes without saying.

Is this being telecast ? I heard it wasn't and from looking at the schedule there are some decent fighters on the card. Daniel is one of our most successful boxers of recent time. It would be a great pity if Foxtel were not telecasting this.

Would be great if FOX did put this on. Not PPV worthy IMO(I would maybe pay $29.99 for it).

I wouldn't be surprised if this rescheduled Geale vs Quinlan fight takes place in Tasmania.
