Green: I'll sharpen up for Mundine. A whole new ballgame.

Danny Green says he'll prepare very differently for his Anthony Mundine rematch after winning a 10-round brawl to claim the Australian cruiserweight title.
"Mundine won't hurt me," said Green.
"It will be more of a boxing test and my sparring partners will be totally different.
"It will be a whole new ball-game. And I'll be a lot sharper."
Green said his team would start talks with Mundine's camp immediately on the terms, date and venue of their long-awaited bout following his unanimous points decision over Kane Watts in Melbourne on Wednesday night.
"We'll sit down and get it going. We'll get a venue and a state and then we'll talk the black and white details. Hopefully, (fight) end of November, the start of December. That would be the optimum time," he said.
"It's in the back of your mind and anyone who said it wasn't, would be lying. I did my best to block it out over the last 10 days," he said.
The 43-year-old West Australian said he was wary of Watts, who had won his previous seven fights by knockout.
"He's a big boy and he can punch and I didn't want to wear anything and ruin potentially what's around the corner," Green said.
"Giving 10 kilos to a guy who's nine years younger when it was all on the line for him, there was a lot at stake and I was careful and did the job."
Green received a cut on the forehead above the right eye from a head clash in the second round and he was critical of the referee for allowing what he claimed were headbutts from Watts throughout the bout.
"He was coming at me like a bull. He was ramming his head into me so hard, I thought my face was going to rub off," he said.
"Luckily, I don't mark (cut) a lot, That's all I've got, that one little cut.

Every time Mundine's face appeared on the overhead screens a huge boo went around the arena. If the rematch is held in Melbourne Mundine will have to contend with a partisan Green crowd.

I think Melbourne will probably get Mundine-Green II.
Green has proven he can fill big Melbourne venues regardless of who he fights. There are bigger stadium options available than Hisense too. The Tennis Centre might not even be big enough. Etihad Stadium could be the answer. It's got the roof. About 50,000 capacity and the UFC proved it works as a fight venue.

Hisense arena's capacity is 10,500 set up in tennis mode. It was obviously set up very differently for Green vs Watts. But however many it was set up for the other night there was barely an empty seat in the house.
The flat section at Hisense was completely filled with tables. No sure how many exactly, but the promoter said the most ever sold for a boxing match in Australia. Each table had 10 chairs and they were all sold.
The ring was in the centre of the floor. Some of the tables to the right hand side of the picture are cut off in the above shot. But if you count the number of tables to the left of the ring, and towards the top of the shot and double it you have some idea of how many tables there were.
If they can sell that many tables and seats for Green vs Watts in Melbourne I shudder to think how many they could sell for Green vs Mundine.

Good to see Danny mention the 10 kg's he gave away when fighting another cruiserweight for the Australian Cruiserweight title I am sick to death of these people who take every-one for a fool.

We have been hearing it as an excuse from Mundine for why the rematch won't happen for years. People here have run with it as an excuse too. The fight is happening and it is time we all got used to the idea.

I think you'll find they will both retire. Mundine has already said it will be his last fight.

How many times have you rolled that one out now?
This is the final pay day for both of them.

Danny Green Australian Cruiserweight Champion my ass he fought and won a vacant title, and it was only vacated so he could fight for it. Didn't hear him once say how happy he is to be the Australian champion. we have boxers in Aus that would just about kill to be able to fight for the Australian championship and Green doesn't even give it a mention (shame shame shame )

Good to see the Australian title as the main title on the promotion. Hope more Australian titles can be contested and publicised to encourage and make it worthwhile for more Aussies to test themselves against the best opponents in their own back yard.

True. Far too many are bypassing the national title these days in search of alternative titles with no tradition or logic behind them.

Green fought has a supermiddle , got beat by choc at supermiddle and has cried for years , it was'nt fair he had to lose weight , whislt he makes every other bugger lose weight and fight at Danny weight .
For me the ideal thing would be for Mundine to call a press conference ,, announce he has one thing only to say ,, produce a clip of his hand being raised against Green , and say I'm rfetired , Let Green cry like a little bitch for the rest of his life .
Choc for me is gonna lose against a bigger man for the sake of a dollar ,, just hope he needs it ,and its worth it , i would rather see him hold on to the win

How many boxers lose without offering an excuse in recent times? Particularly in grudge matches. The only ones not offering a single excuse instead offer a list of them. Look no further than Mundine himself for someone who always offers excuses when he loses.
As far as the rematch goes, I'm sure at some stage Mundine probably will hold up a picture of his hand being raised 10 years ago. But make no mistake, Mundine is as keen for the rematch as Green is and that's why it will happen.

I agree but the worst excuse by Green was when he got beaten by the shot, semi retired Tarver.

Mundine racially vilifying Geale's family. Storming off like a sook after the fight and then having the gall to repeatedly claim he won the fight when he was beaten to the punch all night and beaten badly is way out there in a class of its own

Mundine still stuck in denial over loss to Geale
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/m ... 6567074758
DEFEATED boxer Anthony Mundine has dug himself into a even deeper hole with NSW boxing authorities, taking to social media for a second day to pour more scorn on officials over his loss to to Daniel Geale.
"Don't, don't, don't believe the hype," Mundine said yesterday
"If anybody thinks they can judge boxing & not be biased put the mute button on tune & score.
"I just watch (sic) the fight replay! Now I'm even more convinced I won . . . it was closer than I thought tho (sic) 116-113," the former champion added.
Barry Wood, the former NSW rugby league star-turned fight promoter and father of Garth Wood, a fighter who knocked out Mundine in 2010, described Mundine's tweets as "moronic, illiterate and hypocritical.
"Mundine has to learn to get over it and move on," Wood senior told The Weekend Australian.
"Daniel Geale won the fight comfortably."
Mundine and Sonny Bill Williams are already in hot water with the NSW Combat Sports Authority. Chairman Denis Fitzgerald meets lawyers next week over earlier remarks made by the pair against the way the fight was judged.
Williams, preparing to fight former IBF heavyweight champion Francois Botha in Brisbane next Friday night, posted a photo of himself, Wallabies five-eighth Quade Cooper and Mundine after the fight, with the caption: "Hanging out with @Anthony-Mundine celebrating a victory. We don't pay attention to corrupt judges!"
The former All Black, who is scheduled to join the Sydney Roosters in the NRL on February 18, later apologised.
Former champion Jeff Fenech labelled Williams a "f . . king idiot" for his original tweet. "It's also bullshit to say Mundine won the fight," Fenech said yesterday.
"I scored the fight 11 rounds to Geale, one to Mundine and one round a draw.
"I can't explain Mundine's post-fight actions.
"I respect him as an athlete and as a boxer; he's done a fair job over the years," Fenech said.
"But he simply has to face up to the fact he clearly didn't prepare properly for the fight on Wednesday night.
"Mundine showed glimpses of his old self at times where he had a bit of a dig at Daniel Geale, but never went on with it," he said.
"He (Mundine) did his best, but it simply wasn't good enough on the night."

True but he said it straight away Mundine is hated for who he is and not loved for who he isn't.

Green can obviously now get down to around 86kg comfortably, as he fought at that weight against Watts when he could have come in much heavier if he'd chosen to.
Next step for Green is getting down to 83kg. But he will have a minimum of 5 months to do it.

Geale won easily but Jeff needs to do a mathematics refresher course there's only 12 rounds in a fight.

I'd love to know which 7 rounds Mundine thinks he won against Geale in their second fight. Assuming he didn't think he won more than 7
