The WBA were taking about offering Browne an olive branch even before the court hearing was due to start. I assume things have been resolved out of court. It was due to start August 4th and haven't seen a word about anything actually taking place.

If the WBA offer Browne an olive branch, are they going to offer every fighter that passes pre fight & fails post fight testing an olive branch? WBA are trying to hold their bull crap tournament together, Ortiz doesn't look interested in a Ustinov bout & Chagaev not doing any negotiations with Oquendo leaves some big holes to fill

With Chagaev retired. Oquendo vs Browne is a nice fit.
Would be great to see Australia get the fight and if we do Melbourne is the logical place to hold it.

This makes no sense to me. Browne was found guilty of taking a prohibited substance in his next fight he is fighting for that same world title? It's ridiculous, I know there is a lot of doubt surrounding all the events of his last fight but surely if you're found guilty of cheating you can't or shouldn't be able to just get another shot.

WBA rules state a positive result will give you a 2 year ban from fighting for a WBA World Title

Well the WBA are famous for not abiding by their own rules I guess.

The WBA Title is basically irrelevant now. The term Champion is watered down enough as it is when there are 4 sanctioning bodies at the same time, then you got 1 of those 4 sanctioning with 3 versions of a WBA Champion per division. It's just completely ridiculous.

The whole VADA/WBA thing has been a total cock up. The Fury brothers and others have had their suspensions suspended and the tests are looking increasingly hopeless.

Chagaev choosing to stay retired is how this match was made.
The WBA has a court order to get Oquendo a title shot and I'm sure they want to be done with that.
The sanctioning body gave Browne a six month suspension which will be done next month, I fail to see the problem with him fighting for a vacant belt afterwards. As others have noted the WBA has been known to bend their own rules.
It looks like the WBA used their belt to settle out of court with Browne as well.
So the WBA doesn't have to waste money in court with Browne, they will finally be done with Oquendo and they get a fight that should make decent money.
Don't lose sight of the fact that this is a secondary belt that a lot of the top heavyweights just are not interested in(Fury holds the highest version of the WBA belt).
It's not like Wilder, Joshua, Parker, Povetkin and others are jumping at the chance to fight old man Oquendo for this belt.
Plus Fres himself doesn't bring any fans and/or tv money to the bargaining table with him.
I would be willing to bet the networks bankrolling Wilder and Joshua would not approve Oquendo as an opponent, those guys can't make money fighting Oquendo.
Browne vs Oquendo in Australia for this belt is a money maker which Browne will easily win to set up more money making fights.

Everyone seems to be playing their cards pretty close to their chest on this one. No news on any court case having taken place. So one would think some kind of agreement has been arrived at. But they are keeping their powder dry on announcing it.

I suspect Lucas Browne and the WBA have already come to an agreement and anticipate we will hear an announcement shortly after his suspension is completed in about 3 weeks time. A fight against Oquendo would seem a likely possibility.

Lucas Browne has recently re-signed with manager Matt Clark. But not sure if that extends to Ricky Hatton as well or not?

Browne-Oquendo negotiations underway
http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/browne- ... way-352409?
WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza has announced that negotiations are underway for a fight for the vacant WBA regular heavyweight title between Lucas Browne and Fres Oquendo.
“Browne’s title shot came out of a legal settlement we had to do after we got sued by Browne’s people for stripping him,” Mendoza told Sky Sports.
“I think the WBA grounds were very strong. He took us to court and we settled for giving him a title opportunity…that’s what we ordered. We have been listening to the promoters, that’s a very tough fight to sell. That’s a very tough fight to make because of the amounts of money, but they are negotiating right now. We’ll see what the outcome is.”

"The Lucas Browne issue has been more or less resolved. Browne, who upset Ruslan Chagaev in March to win the WBA World heavyweight title, was stripped for failing a drug test. He denied any wrongdoing, took the WBA to court and won, so he will likely face Fres Oquendo for the title in his next bout".

How much support did Leapai get after all his publicity from Klitscko? Take into account the stain from Brownes positive test, do you think he gets enough support in Oz
