I didn't read it all. But it sounds like ward wants another "tune up" fight with a super middleweight before he challenges chilemba :shame: .

Wouldn't surprise me. He shamelessly ducked Bute so I wouldn't be shocked at all if Kovalev made him soil himself.

Sounds about right. We're boxing fans, we're not allowed anything nice.

Boxing is the worst run sport in the world.

This is one of the reasons Ward has never and will never break through to mega stardom. People just won't pay to watch a reluctant boxer who changes plans on a whim.

Must be a pissing nightmare being a promoter at times!

If Ward backs out of this fight I hope HBO sues him for every dime he's got. F*ck this guy.

Well it's not really 'run' at all, that's the problem. It's just a random bunch of alphabet organisations, promoters and broadcasters doing pretty much whatever they feel like.

I think Ward is insecure about fighting Kovalev in Las Vegas, even though he'll still have home country advantage.

He wants to have the fight in Oakland so he can have a personal referee there to permit him to use illegal tactics. He also wants to dictate ring size, gloves, etc.

He feels less afraid secure with a home crowd behind him. Ward is no warrior.

Funny how the people criticizing Ward for wanting the fight in his home town are the ones who defended Povetkin for demanding the same thing a few months ago.

Is that really comparable though? Povetkin was backed by huge money so it made sense to hold the fight in Russia - what reason is there for fighting in Oakland?

Sure there are things to work out, especially venue. I'm not sure why so many of you are up in arms about this. Its a November fight. There is time.

If you read the article, Ward told them a week ahead of time he wasn't coming to the press conference. Why would you sell tickets knowing that? AND hold it besides?

Looks like to me they need signed contracts before spending a lot of money on promotion.....but thats just me.

"Kathy Duva resolves issues with Roc, confident Ward-Kovalev at T-Mobile":

“It will be at T-Mobile,” Duva told RingTV.com on Thursday. “We’re going to have the contracts (signed) soon. We’ve gotten past the impasse in the last few days... it won’t be long. It’s resolved. I don’t think there are any big, outstanding issues.”

They have to promote the fight, don't they. A better question is why Ward wouldn't come.

You don't have a "fight" until contracts are signed. It doesn't matter why Ward didn't make it. It was stupid to still have it without him. Postpone it. Common sense.

I think they did a right thing to demonstrate who keeps things from happening, starting from the presser and ending with the fight itself.

One of the comments to this article was right on...
So, there is not a signed contract. Many have been saying this fight is a done deal for months now but I've always been a bit skeptical. I wonder if the purse split has been decided? I'm sure Ward wants 60-40...in his favor. Ward has had 4 fights in 5 years against guys no one ever heard of. He is seriously over-hyped and somewhat overrated. HBO and others have done a pretty good job of selling a 2009-2011 Ward to a 2016 audience.

Don't think they will fight November 19th. Ward and Virgil are very crafty. Doesnt seem logical to have a fight of this Magnitude only 3 months after just fighting.
