Must be a pissing nightmare being a promoter at times!Horse wrote:Boxing is the worst run sport in the world.
Well it's not really 'run' at all, that's the problem. It's just a random bunch of alphabet organisations, promoters and broadcasters doing pretty much whatever they feel like.Horse wrote:Boxing is the worst run sport in the world.

Is that really comparable though? Povetkin was backed by huge money so it made sense to hold the fight in Russia - what reason is there for fighting in Oakland?tiny_acres wrote:marvelous marv wrote:Funny how the people criticizing Ward for wanting the fight in his home town are the ones who defended Povetkin for demanding the same thing a few months ago.![]()

So true
They have to promote the fight, don't they. A better question is why Ward wouldn't come.Badhusker wrote:Sure there are things to work out, especially venue. I'm not sure why so many of you are up in arms about this. Its a November fight. There is time.
If you read the article, Ward told them a week ahead of time he wasn't coming to the press conference. Why would you sell tickets knowing that? AND hold it besides?
Looks like to me they need signed contracts before spending a lot of money on promotion.....but thats just me.

I think they did a right thing to demonstrate who keeps things from happening, starting from the presser and ending with the fight itself.Badhusker wrote:boxing_rocks wrote:They have to promote the fight, don't they. You don't have a "fight" until contracts are signed. It doesn't matter why Ward didn't make it. It was stupid to still have it without him. Postpone it. Common sense.

One of the comments to this article was right on...Enlightened-One wrote:"Kathy Duva resolves issues with Roc, confident Ward-Kovalev at T-Mobile":

“It will be at T-Mobile,” Duva told RingTV.com on Thursday. “We’re going to have the contracts (signed) soon. We’ve gotten past the impasse in the last few days... it won’t be long. It’s resolved. I don’t think there are any big, outstanding issues.”
So, there is not a signed contract. Many have been saying this fight is a done deal for months now but I've always been a bit skeptical. I wonder if the purse split has been decided? I'm sure Ward wants 60-40...in his favor. Ward has had 4 fights in 5 years against guys no one ever heard of. He is seriously over-hyped and somewhat overrated. HBO and others have done a pretty good job of selling a 2009-2011 Ward to a 2016 audience.
