was listening to a very commercial radio station in London last night and they started talking about Eminem playing a boxer in is next film.
Apparently he will play current pro Dimitry Saleta in a bio-pic of Saletas life so far.
Rumour has it he hired Emmanuel Steward to train him.

This is great news for boxing as a star like Eminem will give boxing a shot in the arm (ie) put more bums on seats in the arenas hopefully!!

However is Saletas story worth making into a film???

Surely there are other much better stories out there???

Sounds like a dog of a film - straight to video. This boxer hasn't done anything so far, so I think it'll be a short film.

He should play Tapia, there's a story worth telling.

yeah, Manny Steward has been training Eminem and has been impressed. I dont know the details of Salita's life, except that he moved from Ukraine i think to New York. He's a jew and Bob Arum loves him for that. He's a pretty average prospect, wont go far....but might make for a good film.

Strange choice for a movie. He was shown on Sky on the undercard of Mayweather - Corley and didn't look all that hot, to be honest. A white, Jewish - American immigrant, who has the nickname 'star of david' and who has some skill is going to sell well, however, to the US public. Which is why he'll get a shot at Cotto or somebody, get 'exposed' and ultimately ruined.

He's compelling to some because he's an immigrant and a convert to orthodox Judaism, observing all the dogmatic rituals therein. And he's a boxer who fights "black."

"Marshall is a very natural talent, had I gotten a hold of him earlier in life, I guarantee you he would have been top 10 material, maybe even a world champ. He's got all the moves, a real natural."

Pretty much word for word what Angelo Dundee said about Will Smith when he was in training for the Ali movie.

Makes you wonder how many "top 10 material" actors out there!

Who was it who trained Robert DeNiro for Raging bull, they said something along very similar lines too....something about how with a few years work, Robert would be middleweight champion!!!

De Niro fought is some genuine matches didnt he? After training for the film.

we all know Ray Winstone boxed and he was pretty useful according to most reports.
Incidently nearly everyone one thinks he is a hulk of a fella but not at all he is only bout 5.9 not that you would wanna mix it with him anyway I suppose. Literally bumped into him once at the back of the savoy where they were filming and I came outta work.

i remember Jake La Motta himself saying De Niro could of made it as a very good pro boxer.
