Apparently the mods think so. Despite 10 pages of Ron thread being deleted, there can be no other possibility.

In seriousness, I guess it was a bit unnecessarily demeaning, and I was a contributor myself.

Ronald does bring it on himself though. Last night after the gold medal fight at Welterweight he said: "Kazakhstan are the second country to personally annex the Welterweight division along with Cuba." He then prattled on some more about this annexation, seemingly confusing himself in the process.

As someone wrote to the i newspaper: "It's like he's swallowed a dictionary without understanding the words."

I don't dislike Ron, by the way. He reads fights better than most commentators.

Yes good description, he prattles on about God knows what, using the longest words he can possibly come up with ...
I think the explanation is he is not particularly bright, and trys to overcompensate by using as an impressive sounding vocabulary as possible, which obviously leaves everybody listening completely nonplussed, and thinking oh just shut the f*** up.

He comes across as a very nice guy, which no doubt contributes to how he keeps such an unlikely job

The Scottish bloke who commentates for BN, Alex something, is very good - he's obviously not a massive fan but does a great job as lead commentator

Perhaps the teeth jokes were a bit ott but he is rank rotten as a commentator!

it's not something that's bothering me really lol.I think Ron is doing a good job,I actually quite like his style.Better than Halling and Rawlings by far,if you want rambling on about crap try Rawlings!

Yup. Glyn had left a number of comments (unrelated to Ron and more generally about commentators per se). It's sad to see all this deleted; and with no explanation or reason. And after all - this is a forum. Criticism of an individual is reasonable and happens a lot. Plenty of posters also supported him.

Is Boxrec becoming a forum where one cannot criticise anyone???! No one with a brain or opinion would want to be part of that.

Ron is a very good man, I know because i worked with him for many years and he has become a good friend. Please also take into account that commentating on anything is not as easy as it looks. Set yourself a little test gentlemen? turn the tv down and say/commentate on what you see out loud for 5 minutes. Then be brave enough to come back on here and be honest about how you rated.

I guarantee your will not find it easy to continually talk without pausing. Its a skill/trade that takes years to perfect.

Agreed. Though you don't need to continually talk without pausing. Ronald and many other commentators need to understand that.

Yes, unfortunately Ron has certainly perfected the skill of continually talking with out pause.

If you know him personally, then perhaps suggest to him, that his work would be much better if he paused and allowed the action to speak for itself occasionally, a little discipline and restraint would improve his work immeasurably. Once he's introduced the fighters and their respective backgrounds, no need to repeat it again, it's just a distraction, and annoying if you've already heard it.

I'm going to do a little experiment, and record myself over a fight if I get time. Obviously I won't have a co-commentator to work with.
