Golovkin's Coach: Canelo Fight Will Happen, When GGG is 60!

"I thought Canelo was never going to fight us, at least not now anyway. It may happen when Gennady is 60. For right now I didn't think he's going to fight us," Sanchez said to Fight Hub.
"I think it's a fight that the fans really want to see. I don't think it's a walkover fight. I think Canelo is a warrior, that he will get in there and fight and make Golovkin fight too. I think the business of boxing is why this fight is not happening. It's not happening today, it's not happening in September of this year and may not happen in September of next year - but its got nothing to do with [Canelo] not being ready. Its the business of boxing that I think they are basing their decision on."

It may be true.

At the Brook press conference that took place earlier on this week, Golovkin once again reiterated his belief that he’s a small middleweight that could make 154lbs fairly easily.
Why doesn’t GGG call Canelo’s bluff and agree to face him at his stipulated 155lb catch-weight? That seems to be the main stumbling block, right?

Draining to 155 lbs is a very big risk. Canelo sooner or later will have to go up in weight, since he's growing.

That wouldn't be a case of GGG calling Canelo's bluff. It would be a case of GGG being bluffed. No GGG should content himself beating every 160 fighter on the planet until Canelo finally and reluctantly becomes one, and then add him to the list.

Calling Canelo's bluff would be for GGG to offer to fight for the 154lb title that he is being served with. The current Goldenboy narrative is that Alvarez is just a teeny weeny LMW and needs months and months to build his way up to MW.
So if/when Canelo beats Smith, Loeffler should make an public offer to fight for the LMW title at the end of this year if Jacobs or Saunders are still reluctant. I have little doubt that despite his age GGG would suffer less draining to 154 than Canelo.

I agree.
Despite GGG's claims that he could make 154lbs easily, he still refuses to fight at that weight. However, as a one-off, he should announce to the world that he'd be willing to face Canelo at 155lbs, which is the sames weight that Alvarez faced Khan.
Take away the only obstacle and then see if Canelo (or more likely GBP) declines the fight.

He really doesn't have any reason to fight lower than MW except for a one-off huge fight and payday. In Mayweather's case also to fight the undefeated P4P #1.
I thought that a non title fight at 155lbs was agreed in principle already but Goldenboy didn't like that. I can't remember where I read that though so I'm not 100% sure.
