Not a bad fight, even though Berto isn't one best welterweights in the division but still is a top contender for Garcia's title,Berto is still a decent fighter, who gives his all in the ring and has enough power to hurt Garcia.Styles make fights, why not Garcia is flat footed and Berto isn't much of a mover and will stay in front of Garcia all day.Garcia has power an a brutal left hook and Berto has power as well, looking forward a good fight.

Garcia wins by shutout decision. Berto is past his best, and his best wasn't all that great to begin with. At least not at the elite level.

You mean you think it's an even matchup? Because it's absolutely not. Garcia is gonna win easy as hell.

Garcia is starting to get stale, he's been known for some big fights.

Berto lost his edge around the same time as his steroid use became uncovered.

Even at his best he was getting controversial decisions over the likes of Luis Collazo. Like I said. He was never that good to begin with.

2014 was a bad year for Garcia.
2016 is turning out to be

If Berto was Mexican, he woulda been almost universally loved.
But he's another one of those guys who is hated because he was too hyped.
Even though he has given boxing fans straight up wars and great fights.
I've always asked why isn't he well regarded like Gatti, Corrales, Angulo and other war fighters?

Whatever, Garcia needed a better opponent than this.

Berto's definitely shown a lot of heart and provided some great fights, but I think the reason he's not mentioned in the same breath as Corrales and Gatti is because Corrales and Gatti actually came back in fights they were losing and won. Berto's only ever done that one time to my recollection, and it was against Josesito Lopez, and that was a questionable stoppage IMO.

Berto is regarded higher than Angulo is I'm sure. I don't see how he couldn't be.

Berto is better than Gatti ever was and the guys who beat Berto would have also beaten Gatti.

Ortiz was a weird night. It was everything Victor could have been.
Berto showed what would have happened any other night.

What fights is Berto remembered for that would make you think he was better than Arturo Gatti?

Easy.

Watching Gatti.
Watching Berto.

I know Berto is better.

Whatever man. I'm just confused as to how Berto doesn't have a dedicated following of fight fans who love action.
The comparisons are a mistake on my point because it doesn't really matter.

Another lame fight for Garcia. He is fighting into irrelevancy with his opponent selection.

I love Berto fights when he is at his own level (Ortiz, Josesito, etc.) not as a no hoper v FMJ or (theoretically) Danny.

This is a classic no win situation for Garcia, unless he comes out and demolishes Berto early. Even then, people will criticize him for the opponent.

The only possible upside is that this is his entry to an FMJ fight next May.

Decent fight. Garcia gets hated on but so far has always found a way to win. Berto has some good fights left and like others have pointed out, he is in exciting fights with similar talent level opponents.
I would have rather seen Garcia vs Khan again. I read Khan broke his hand in the Canelo fight? Not sure if that is true or not.

Berto had a huge 12th round to pull out the collazo fight. That fight was epic. He was just losing to Ortiz and came back.

He's the only guy with any name value that even would be "Losing to Ortiz" at this point though.

I'm not trumping him as top class, just answered your question.

I agree berto never came back in any fights he was losing in,gatti always gave plenty effort in ever fight he was losing.

Crap underwhelming fight,Garcia has been in with some dangerous fighters but his team seem content with fighting no hopers these days, maybe if Ortiz can get another win under his belt he'll get next shot

Garcia is mentioned in the same breath as the top welterweights in the world.

Berto is in the same class as likes of Ortiz, Collazo, Guerrero, Soto Karass.

Garcia vs.Berto is a mismatch..

Berto is around the same level as today's version of Collazo

Another uninspiring fight for Garcia against a shopworn 'name' opponent. Al's got a top stable at 147, so hopefully Garcia is matched tougher than this in the near future; he's a top fighter who has stepped up before, and he doesn't need this kind of pampering.

Ortiz with another win or two would a very good fit. Heck, Paulie, Guerrero, Berto, and Ortiz, sounds like a very tough string of opponents, at least if you just look at the names and ignore things like Guerrero going life and death with Aron Martinez in his previous fight, Paulie's 15 months of inactivity and blowout loss to Porter, etc. I mean all those guys are former champs and three of them fought Floyd!
