Which former Junior Welterweight world champion was so angry about being DQ'd (along with his opponent for "not making effort") that he punched the ref hard enough to hospitalize him, initially resulting in a 3 year ban which was later shortened?

You got me. I've never heard of somebody getting DQ'd for not making effort, but that must've been one suck ass fight, and why the hell were Chris Byrd and Davarryl Williamson not DQ'd?

A lot of fights were called off in the old days for non action. Fury/wlad is the new standard of suck. Used to be page/tubes for me.

Byrd vs Williamson is still the worst fight I've ever seen personally, but Fury/Wlad is the 2nd worst I've ever seen. I'll take your word for it on how bad Page vs Tubbs sucks.

It was Perico Fernandez vs Manuel Lira Amaral 22/07/1980 - came across a report of the bout in a Ring back issue & thought it would make a good trivia question - over to you guys for the next question....

Lennox Lewis-McCall was stopped because McCall wasn't making effort. He was crying, but if he was punching and crying I doubt it would have been stopped. If I remember correctly, I think on boxrec it said a Jimmy Young fight in South America was stopped due to lack of effort from both fighters. Shocking, right.

The Lewis-McCall rematch is in a category all it's own for bizarreness. The referee was definitely right to stop that fight. I'm surprised he let it go on as long as he did honestly, the dude was just walking around the ring as if in a daze and not defending himself at all, and in between rounds breaking down in tears.
One of the more bizarre things I've ever seen in a Boxing ring.

Oliver McCall is one of the most bizarre and amazing boxers. Casual fans like my brother for instance remember the bizarre LL-McCall 2, but then they're shocked when I tell them, "You know, McCall has had about 30 or so fights since then, he's won most of them, hasn't been stopped since then or knocked down ever!" Casual fans just assume he disappeared from boxing.
Also the guy has to have the HW over 40 crack head title. I'm not trying to be condescending, he admits, and has called himself a drug addict and crack head. Boxers who have lived clean lives are usually washed up by 40 but this guy at over 40 has beaten some journeymen and former contenders like Oquendo while having serious drug issues. The guy is amazing and bizarre in many ways.
