Was before my time as a fan. I'll watch a few of his fights. I see his loss to Robert Quiroga was Fight of the Year for 1991. That's cool.

Yeah Anifowoshe collapsed shortly after and slipped into a coma, recovered but never fought again, the result was close and could have went either way, crazy to think if that happening if he'd won.one of the best fights ive seen mate

Two judges gave Quiroga 116-112 I think it was bullshit.IMO Akeem won this bout 115-113.

I read an article a couple of years after the Quiroga bout, saying Akeem wanted to fight again. I didn't think he'd ever be allowed to but he was. RIP is the result

He would have been 50 in a few weeks.
Funny how life can change for a fighter. I remember how easily he was expected to beat Quiroga.
Quiroga himself was stabbed to death in 2004.

Don't know why I remember but think when Akeem fought Quigora he was wearing pretty much the same shorts Benn wore against Barkley, useless info, just sticks in my mind.

He ended up wanting to fight again after the Quiroga fight when clearly he should have been a million miles away from a boxing ring
