Spence Defeats Bundu - Nothing New Learned

What can be gleaned of Spence from this bout? Not much besides he has a solid jab that he is willing to work behind with patience, and the power to stop his opponent when he has him hurt.
He has done one better than WBA Welterweight champion Keith Thurman with the stoppage, but proceeding to judge them against an opponent such as Bundu only leaves the question of who is the better welterweight moot.

Well, like Spence has said himself, all he has to do is keep winning, and in spectacular fashion. He is about as humble as they come when compared to someone like Thurman. He doesn't mind if the compliments he gets are of the backhanded type like from the OP, he just keeps moving on and up.
He did out-do Pacquaio, Khan, Provodnikov, and Thurman if you want to compare common opponents and results. Even that doesn't really matter as much to him as having the opportunity to prove himself against the elite of the division. Thurman already turned down an opportunity to face him for a belt, demanding $10 million to face him last year....then went on to fight the scary, vicious past his prime Collazo.

Thurman is a great match up for Spence. He really has no disadvantage.

Sounds like a really good fight, but I suspect that Haymon will have both of them fight weaker opponents for a while before matching them against each other.

Looking the goods offensively. They are matching him against people with hardly any pop though, and I'd like to see him face someone who at least in theory would have firepower to prevent him from bulling in so freely.

I would love to see that fight. I don't think it is an easy fight for either guy....great match-up. Also love to see Spence fight Porter and Garcia. I think all those will come next year and the year after. Next for Spence, I am guessing now - will be against Jeff Horn or Lamont Peterson for the vacant IBF title. I doubt if Arum puts Konstantin Ponomarev in with Spence, but could be wrong. All this is of course assuming Brook vacates.

I don't think it would be easy. But I don't see anything Keith does better.

I agree with you 100% that fight was like watching target practice. Bundu was 41 years old with 33 wins and 12 ko's for 32% ko percentage easy to do your offense when you don't have to worry as much about incoming..

Ya, and before that it was featherfists like Algeiri and van Heerden. Spence is still beating these guys impressively and I think he'll continue to shine when he steps up, but I would like to see how he does against someone with pop; they keep matching him with guys that are made for him to power through.

For a while? We'll still be talking about wanting to see Thurman vs Spence in 2019 when they've moved up to 154 by then.

I don’t know why you guys feel so compelled to criticise Haymon so much. If I look at some of the welterweight match-ups his guys have been involved in within the last few years, you’ll find that most of them were pretty good.

Thurman and Porter was a good matchup that people wanted to see. That's about it.

Wasn't Haymon involved in these welterweight type match-ups?
Thurman vs. Berto (TBA)
Thurman vs. Porter
Broner vs. Porter
Garcia vs. Guerrero
Brook vs. Porter
Thurman vs. Guerrero
Garcia vs. Peterson
Maidana vs. Broner
Khan vs. Maidana
Khan vs. Garcia
Khan vs. Peterson

Oh my, you had to go and throw the fact stuff in. Its going to piss off the guys that wanted to see Haymon fail. If all that you posted is true, I would say that is pretty impressive.

Everyone single one of those bouts involve guys that are with Haymon, with those bouts being televised either by Showtime or by PBC.

Wasn't Haymon involved in these welterweight type match-ups?
Thurman vs. Berto (TBA) - Sh*t matchup
Thurman vs. Porter - Great matchup, one of PBC's finest moments
Broner vs. Porter - Very good matchup
Garcia vs. Guerrero - Considering Guerrero had already been brought in to lose to Thurman, and was by this one PBC's token losers. This sucked
Brook vs. Porter - Very good matchup
Thurman vs. Guerrero - Moderately interesting matchup
Garcia vs. Peterson - Good matchup, sh*t fight
Maidana vs. Broner - Great matchup, hell of a lot of fun to watch
Khan vs. Maidana - Great fight
Khan vs. Garcia - Great fight
Khan vs. Peterson - Great fight
The last 4 weren't under the PBC banner. They were good matchups put on big networks. Matchups like those have been what PBC is lacking for the most part. We're getting more and more Garcia vs Salka, and less and less Garcia vs Khan type stuff.

That he is a machine, that he gets better and better, imo and I've been saying it for two or three years now, he is going to dominate the division, and remain unbeaten for years and years, eventually becoming p4p number 1, and a multi weight world champion.

He definitely has potential to be the man at Welterweight from what I've seen. I haven't seen him give the kinda performance that would have me putting him at future P4P #1 status just yet.

A good judge will know long before its proven! Saying it when it's already happend?? An idiot could tell you that, predicting it is the difference between being in the know and a armchair fan!

Since you only joined here in July, it is pretty easy for you to say, and hard for anyone to verify what you have been saying for the last 2-3 years. I do, however agree that he is the real deal. Now to get him in with some top guys. Spence claimed many boxers turned down the fight that Bundu eventually took.

The first seven bouts in the list were all fought less than two years ago.

Not sure. What great match-ups have been made that are non-haymon welterweight fights this year? I think he has done fine compared to other promoters/managers. Pacquiao vs Bradley?
