This fight was not shown live in Europe or even shown the next day,but it
was heard live on BBC radio broadcast over there.
It was shown live in America via the Early Bird satellite
(the first live fight that was ever beamed from overseas)
It was shown LIVE on ABC's Wide World of Sports
with Howard Cossell and Chris Schenkal.
However I cant remember if I have ever seen the ABC broadcast.
Does it differ from the Rank Organisation film of it,from a different angle ?

Yes the live version is very different from the UK filmed version. Different angle, noise, commentary...

and it was also broadcast by ABC in colour right ?

BTW It was actually a clash of heads (and not a punch)that started Sir Henry leaking heavily in this one if you study the footage closely enough.

also (if I'm not mistaken) this was the first Boxing telecast to show a "slow-motion-replay" ?

It certainly was NOT a clash of heads. I was at Highbury that night, and although we were disappointed there was no suggestion of a clash of heads, or any other kind of mishap. Ali just outclassed our guy, and opened him up like a can of tomatoes with punches. Plain and simple, the best man won, legitimately.

This was the first Heavyweight title fight held in Britain
since Tommy burns defended it against Gunner Moir back in 1907.

BTW Sir Henry Cooper did claim after the fight was stopped that it was a clash of heads in that one.

My late father was ringside for this one.

Your own article states that despite Cooper's protestations it was NOT a clash of heads that caused his eye to become opened up like a can of tomatoes. So i don't know what your point is. This after all is the same Cooper who claimed that the 64 seconds between rounds 4 and 5 in 1963 were in fact more than 2 minutes. Nice guy " Enery " but NOT to be taken too seriously when he whinged about his defeats.

Just because they said there wasnt ,that doesnt mean it.
They may have been liquored up and brought in some 'good time girls"
to distract them from what they were viewing.

But did you examine the Rank Organisation fim footage closely at 17:31 ?
Maybe both Jim Wicks and Henry Cooper were correct.

Yeah, seen it, heard your version. All nonsense. Now you try looking at 17.26 at the slashing right hand Ali hits Cooper with bang on the left eye, or how about 17.18 where the commentator says " a left followed by a right in rapid succession, in what must be the inevitable end "?

the live BBC Radio broadcast of Muhammad Ali vrs Henry Cooper II
in your collection as well ?
I truley believe that all existing angles of a title fight that are available for study are important for examination and future reference.

Here is how the Associated Press Scoreboard had the title fight going into the 6th round.


Round 1 -Cooper
Round 2-Cooper
Round 3- Even
Round 4-Clay
Round 5-Clay

That right hand that Ali landed was at 7:29 of the clip
but Cooper did not shake his head from a cut until a full four seconds later at 7:32 of the clip,
so why would there have been a delay to his reaction ?
It would have been split second reaction to a three inch gash (which required twelve stitches) .

Here is what Henry Cooper had said shortly after the fight concerning the deep 3 inch cut on his left brow.

"Clay certainly pulled me on to it,
It was just one of those things,for I do not think he is a dirty fighter at all"
