so how did it all go wrong for Schumacher? He had a decent amateur career and started the pros beating 11 boxers including Johnny Nelson. He then went onto fight Tony Wilson (fight up on my next tape) for the British light heavyweight title and got beat, he never won again suffering another defeat to Wilson, James Cook and Crawford Ashley before retiring 11-5.

I don't know the specifics. However in my opinion undiagnosed head injury can in some cases explain an otherwise mysterious abrupt shift in momentum in a fighters career. Perhaps more so the further back in time you go.

Other generic explanations are a measurable step up in the quality of competition, losing your interest in the sport, or losing focus on the discipline required to succeed.


Ok. I sound like captain obvious on those last three. But I do believe they are the prime suspects.
