Apart from this kid, who holds the record for most fights (British boxer)

There's a really good interview with Kris in Boxing News this week. I had to laugh at his comments about the Cleland Club.

Laight has been exceptional at his job. I've heard he gets tagged more often nowadays though.

I saw some pics on facebook and he's still a good looking lad for a bloke who's been paid to get punched in the face 247 times, if he is getting tagged its time to think about hanging them up as his defence was the only thing that stopped him getting hurt

Yeah and that was with a 5 year break due to the war! fights must have been his training

Let’s say 600 a fight - conservative estimate, 150k, probably higher. I think I’ve seen him box but it would be 10 years ago...he must have some longevity!

Feck me, not a lot is it? £15k per year? Get paid more sweeping the floor at Tesco. I hope he has a decent out of the ring job.

Laight will want a grand a fight. He's not boxing for £600. It's often the home fighter who fights for short money, or free, the opponents is guaranteed.

You generally walk away w £800 off a 4 rounder (roughly)

Laight must earn enough. In an interview a few years ago...

“It’s a wage now to be honest,” he said. “The first couple of years, I actually thought I could do something. Then you have a couple of close ones and start to get the drift of referee’s decisions and you start to think: ‘What’s the point?’ It’s turned me into a journeyman. What’s the point of going in there and giving 110% and if you’re the away fighter? You’re never going to get the decision.

“It’s just a case of looking after yourself, making sure you put in a good performance and taking the money. Keep yourself safe and make sure you can box the week after. Personally, I’d be a liar if I said I love the sport. I don’t love the sport. I do enjoy the training, but I don’t love the sport and I’m in it for one reason. Money.”
