After watching Rudiger May vs Vincenzo Cantatore the other night I can only deduce that we are going to witness one of the worst world title fights in history when Nelson travels over to Germany in September. It's going to be absolutely appalling.

Meanwhile it was the first time I'd seen Cantatore, and he looks pretty dangerous to me. I know David Haye is a a while off fighting for the Euro but I'm not sure he needs to be in there with such a strong, hard hitting lump.

There's no way I'll be turning on the TV for this up-coming farce, yet another in the undistinguished reign of the very NON-Entertaining Nelson.

In any other era, Johnny would've been nothing more than a slightly boring journeyman - someone who'd give the prospects 10 rounds.
Trouble is, we hardly have any propects there days.

Nelson knows how to sell a fight too, telling the papers that he and May are great mates, often having dinner at each others houses. He says the've sparred countless rounds, and May NEVER gets the better of him.
And he's confident of another win.

Wow, he knows how to set the fan's pulses racing doesn't he.

It was poor. May has been exposed every time they've stepped him up - but one of these days he's going to be gifted a verdict in Germany. That's the danger for Nelson.

fair enough but dont agree on the prispects bit, with haye Enzo and Hobson its probably one of the best divs we have

Although we invariably see eye to eye, MW, I'm going to have to have a pop at you over this. Relative old timers like you and I (well, you certainly 8) ) simply cannot shake off the memories of his appalling nights against DeLeon and Warring - undoubtedly two of the world's worst title fights EVER. He has one of the most inappropriate nicknames in boxing.

I do feel he is both underrated and underappreciated. Yes, he has been awful in the past but I wouldn't fault him of late. And regarding selling tickets, being a twat is just not him. He should still sell a few in Germany though!

I respect Nelson as an overeachieving pro, but I would rather hammer a 9-inch nail up my jap's eye than watch his next defence.

You should film that. It's the kind of thing that might make you a few bob, if can find the right sort of market for it.

I'd say that's very much his own fault though Ian. His safety first style gives the fans absolutely nothing in terms of entertainment. He can't be surprised that he rightly gets little recognition as a result of it.

He doesn't really care about the fans, and the fans don't really care about him.

Still, his boring style will probably go down well in Germany. Even if he makes Ottke and Maske look like Zale and Graziano.

How do guys like May get shots at a world title? All the German fighters seem too whether they lose or not. I watched May a few months ago ripp off an Italian journeyman (before Cantatore). The Italian clearly won, he just marched foward though Mays only punch (jab) and was hammering him all night. I think they called it a draw or even gave it to May.

Cantatore is pretty dangerous, you can see he's pretty heavyhanded. A massive risk if David Haye took him on.

Enzo will not fight Canatatore for the euro title next. Cantatore is way to heavy handed and dangerous for Enzo at this stage of his career, or maybe any stage. He may have asked for him but he will not get him.

Cantatore is another classic protected hometown fraud - after his disgraceful whining to the ref. in his fight vs. Braithwaite I'd had quite enough him for one lifetime, thank you very much. The fact that May could manage no better than a draw against Can't-a-Fight in May's own hometown pretty much indicates his level. And Nelson has fought just once in nearly two years.

What - me, down on this sure-to-be-dazzling matchup?

No doubt Cantatore is a hometown fighter and pretty crude in his style but he can definately punch and would hit Enzo back and no doubt hurt him bad. I thought Cantatore beat May by the way, he just didn't get the decision in Mays country.

I think May got the fight by default,Cantatore was No1 for the fight with Nelson but turned it down.

Cantatore september 3rd for enzo trying to get him anyway lets hope it comes of for a fight december with nelson
