It's not getting the press fanfare it deserves.

I think Liam's profile has been quite subdued in comparison to other British fighters which hasn't helped. He's capable but has been somewhat in the shadows of the Joshua's of the sport.

But that aside, it's a fight I'm interested in watching and will be rooting for him 100%.

Yes plenty, Howard Clarke v Vargas, Andries v Hearns, Lockett v Pavlic etc

Maurice Hope got barely any coverage here, taking on the great Wilfred Benitez in the USA too. Similar in that he was defending his LM title against a superstar ...

It's no surprise because Liam isnt what you'd call a genuine World Champion, no one's heard of any of his opponents...

That said, I am REALLY looking forward to this one, he is rightly not given a lot of chance here, but there's something about him, I think he could surprise a few in Texas.

If it was getting zero press and fanfare that'd be what it deserves. Canelo vs anybody but Golovkin is a waste of all of our times. I hope it's one of the worst selling PPV's of all time to send the message loud and clear to Canelo "Fight Golovkin, or you don't matter"

Press fanfare or not, I read somewhere that Smith is getting a million quid for this fight. Life changing money.

flying under the radar a bit might benefit him, less pressure less expectation, wonder what sort of press he will get if he wins, would be criminal if he was ignored by the british press after a win like that

Even when Sky fighters go overseas it doesn't get much hype unless it's one of their big names.

The Smiths are generally very boring though. Callum probably the worst interview in boxing at the moment in terms of dullness. Liam isn't that good either. Paul is well known for being dull.

Joe Gallagher has a rant on Ifl to about this. I imagine joe would prefer Liam to be signed to Eddie. But Frank has done no wrong by him. Got him these opportunities so no reason for him to move.

Newspapers could do more.

Smith hasn't boxed one person in the top 80 in the world. He's hardly built interest.

Gallagher says if Canelo does not make weight the fight is off, said there is no question of "money for lbs" its 154 or below or there is no fight.

I would like to see him stick to it should the occasion arise but I guess if they offered you an extra 250k for a 1lb and a half or some such like, it cant be easy to turn down.

He said something about if Canelo fails the weight we will take our dough and go home, so sounds like Wazza has got the contract right in that Smith gets paid and quite rightly so if he fulfills his obligation of making weight.

Weigh in will be interesting as Ginge does struggle to get that last pound off.

I can't see that. Gallagher probably giving it the big un. Let's not forget Paul and John Murray have both failed weight under his watch and the fight still went on
