I dont say match against Liam Smith is totally bad. But if Canelo choose to fight Brook, Rosado or Monroe next, any fan who understand boxing at least a bit ....will eat him alive. De la Hoya is like cancer for his career. He was my favorite fighter until Khan fight. But i will not watch any of his fights until it will be against Andrade, Charlos, J.Williams, Jacobs, Sauders and eventually GGG. Damn, even Michel Soro is more acceptable than Rosado/Monroe/Brook :( :( :(

Canelo's fan base has shrunk considerably I am guessing, but he can get it back because boxing fans are a fickle bunch. If he beats Smith, which he will, I really doubt if he will fight Andrade next. If he does he gets massive respect from me at least, but doubt he will.
Him vs Brook makes no sense. Charlos maybe but doubtful. Jacobs is a possibility if he wants to move up, but a better bet would be Saunders imo.

DLH is deathly afraid to lose his meal ticket, at the least it would have to be in a massive fight.

A few things worth considering...
Have you seen Canelo’s resume for his last seven bouts (in the context of his opponents’ Ring Magazine rating at the time of the fight)?
• Amir Khan = 3rd Welterweight
• Miguel Cotto = Lineal & Ring 160lb Champion
• Erislandy Lara = 3rd Light Middleweight
• Floyd Mayweather Jr = Pound-for-pound Number One
• Austin Trout = 3rd Light Middleweight
Also, have you not noticed that history is repeating itself (à la Mayweather-Pacquiao)? And do you think that this is a mere coincidence?
Is it an unreasonable thought to believe that there may be compelling business reasons for K2, GBP & HBO to delay the staging of the GGG-Canelo bout?

If Canelo's smart, which i dont think he is. And after the ppv numbers of Smith fail, in a couple of months or so and he will announce that he's leaving Golden Boy. This will put the blame on Golden Boy and Canelo's legacy/credibility will be renewed in the general public's eye, i'm not talking about hardcore boxing fans (people of this website) although it will cause doubts. As for whether he will fight GGG, because of the him leaving GBP this will cause further delays with a fight pushed back to 2018 with a ageing GGG, which again, may not happen.

Leaving Golden Boy ??? Without DLH, he would have likely lost to Trout and Lara and then would have been killed by GGG. DLH is his Savior.

Fans are brainwashed into this pop star.
Crazy how his "worst than any other fighter in recent history" loss to Mayweather is forgotten.
If you asked people why they think he's so good, they'd probably reply "he's popular".

Alvarez is still very young and already a big money maker. DLH doesn't have to rush him into the biggest fight of his life right now. Mayweather had a stretch where he fought Victoriano Sosa, then Phillip NDou, then DeMarcus Corley, then Henry Bruseles, then finally Arturo Gatti (who was still meh), then Sharmba Mitchell, then Carlos Baldomir (hint: this was a very lackluster streak of challengers). Alvarez is not under any obligation to fight Golovkin, DeGale, Ward, and Kovalev in his next fights. He has potentially 20 fights left in his career, and only 1-3 of those fights could possibly be against someone like Golovkin. There aren't 20 distinct Golovkins that he can go chasing down and battling. Given that he's only going to fight a few Golovkins in the entire rest of his career, maybe he could fight them when he's 29, 31, and 33. It doesn't all have to be right now. Getting to where Mayweather got is not a sprint to be rated p4p top 50 as fast as humanly possible; it's a marathon of ensuring that you are consistently taking winnable fights that build your brand a little bit, but nothing too risky.

That's true. I hope canelo pays him back by giving him good blowies. Perfect couple.

Well said. That is the right way to handle things, especially with your one and only money maker. Let's hope after Smith we see a gradual rise in strength of opposition. He was at the highest level fighting Mayweather, Lara, Trout, each guy at a high point. Since then it's been smaller, older, or shot guys. Not much learning or improving from those fights, the money part is the only sensible thing about some of them. I think Brook, Charlos, Andrade is the type of challenge we'd all like to see.
