Not surprised (I guess), but disappointed. Probably would never have been a classic but was a big step-up for both and a fight without an obvious favourite. And without the fight the Fury-Klitschko undercard starts to look really super-poor unless they somehow get someone interesting for BJ Saunders-TBA (though who at middleweight is even available*? It is going to be Langford, isn't it?).

*WBO Middlweight rankings:
1. Avtandil Khurtsidze (International) USA
2. Tommy Langford (Int-Cont.)
3. Ryota Murata JPN
4. David Lemieux (NABO) CAN
5. Max Bursak UKR
6. Hassam N'Dam N'Jikam FRA
7. Rob Brant USA
8. Maciej Sulecki POL
9. Chris Eubank, Jr. UK
10. Gabriel Rosado USA
11. Artur Akavov RUS
12. Ievgen Khytrov UKR
13. Curtis Stevens USA
14. Willie Monroe, Jr. USA
15. Andy Lee

My money's on Ryota Murata.

To get the fight that is -- not the win.

This is the fourth pullout in a few days. Some boxers are wimps.

Isn't there a contract so that one party can't just "pull out" for any reason or no reason, especially in a fairly high profile fight like this?

They can always claim minor injury or sickness.

Not too surprising that a fat out of shape fighter doesn't want to fight 2 months in a row.

Some people remarked that they liked that Ruiz was booking 2 fights 49 days apart and that they wish more fighters did that. Yeah, no. This is precisely why you don't book a fighter for 2 back-to-back fights of his life this close together. Also, see James Kirkland trying to fight 3 times in 35 days and losing the third fight by KO 1 to an opponent who doesn't even have any power. It'd be nice if fighters fought more often than once every 8-14 months, but it's an entirely different story to fight the two best opponents of your career less than 2 months apart.

X2

People constantly talk about how bixers used to fight more frequently. What were the quality of those fights? How long did careers last?

At the top level, I think that three fights a year is the absolute maximum level of activity that should be expected, especially given the extreme scrutiny top level boxers face about the quality of opposition.

Oh come on, a 45 year old Ray Austin, who only fought once in the 5 years before and fought in like 2 months himself as well? Is that a real fight? Or Josh Gormley who hasn't fought since the previous century and even lost his last two fights in that century, now suddenly making 3 fight against unranked boxers who have 19 loses and 3 wins on avarage each, is that a real opponend?
Or a 40 year old out of shape Franklin Lawrence? Is that a real opponend?

Andy Ruiz jr is a joke TBH in my opinion, some of his fights are even a bit dangerously in his advantage and let's get real, it's not like Hughie Fury is 100% perfect with his skinproblems.

It would have been a nice fight and would probably have proved the difference between European fighters and American/Mexican fighters all over again. Real boxers vs showboxers, but sadly the showboxer chickened out again, like they often do.

Kid Galahad wants Rigo on the undercard.

May I ask what skin problems Hughes has?

I'd like to "unwatch" Ruiz, but I already did that a long time ago.

I don't think his pullout has anything to do with his recent fight which looked like a good workout. I believe he knows his 0 will certainly go against Hughie, so he pulled out. I did say I'd be impressed IF he has these 2 fights in a row. IF.

At least then the other party can request to see their medical reports. There must have been a contract, and they must have some excuse for cancelling other than "I just changed my mind".

A very bad form of acne, it's easely visable in his most recent fights. You can google it all over the place.

As long as his condition isn't contagious, it doesn't matter. He's not a model for Abercrombie & Fitch. He's a fighter.

So you think Wilder should step in the ring with Povetkin right now as well? He doesn't need to jerk anyone of in the ring right? So why is a torn bicep a problem? *facepalm*

Didn't Hughie Fury decline opportunities to face Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte?

I personally don’t see anything wrong a young prospect looking after their own best interests, if they regret signing the contract and with hindsight, they subsequently realise that they don’t feel right mentally or physically… or if they feel uncomfortable with the terms of the bout (i.e. the pay, travelling to foreign soil, the quality of the opposition, facing someone previously accused of taking PED’s etc.).

Of course I WANT Wilder to face Povetkin. I'd be rooting for Wilder, but if he lost I'd get over it relatively quickly. Regarding diagnosing his bicep injury -- that's above my pay grade.
