and by the way 'today's money" buys you todays "sh*t"
other then technological devices the quality has gone down the crapper on just about everything else.
(i remember you could still buy a full sized candy bar for a nickle and comic books were still 12 cents as late as 1966.)

Do you know if the round 13 call was a 'live radio call' or just someone acting as though it was a live radio call? - Reason I ask: I am surprised to hear the announcer say "the punch only traveled eight inches." - While we all know that Marciano's eight inch punch is a famous part of prize fight lore, I a am quite surprised that the announcer would make that kind of an insightful remark while the KO was in progress - It seems to me, that is the kind of insightful remark that a newspaper writer or trainer comes up with the next day - but maybe the announcer was just that observant. - Do you know if it was a 'live call' or recreation?

On the other side of it - I would rather have a crappy built smart phone than a well built (circa 1958) house phone.

I dont believe there was ever a live radio broadcast of the first Marciano vrs Walcott bout from Philadelphia,
most probably because it was one of the earliest closed-circuit television broadcasts (to 49 theaters and venues across the country,coast-to-coast)
and probably the biggest up to that point.
It sounds to me on that particular radio interview it was the interviewer Harry Wismer (who was a famous radio sportscaster in the 1940's),
re-creating the fight for effect for the show.
BTW he says the punch traveled "18" inches on it.

Sports columnist and radio and television broadcaster Bill Corum called it for the TNT closed-circuit television broadcast.
