Mairis Briedis

Isn't this bloke the No. 1 contender for Bellews title? Has anyone seen him fight?

I had a quick butchers at his record & he's beaten some decent fighters including a 5th round stoppage over Manuel Charr - who went 4 rounds with Vitali Klit.

He's fighting a British fighter who is 9(2)-0 & has fought NO-ONE on the undercard of Bellews bout next week. Not sure how this one got sanctioned - unless I'm missing something (highly likely  ).

Anyone know anything about him? I see he's Latvian. Does that mean he's a Hatton fighter?

Cheers

Against Charr it wasn't just "stoppage" - it was the most brutal KTFO of the recent years - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIg5Ery010w

Watch his fight with Duradola as well.

Duradola was coming off a win against the biggest puncher in the division in Dmitry Kudryashov.

Don't let at the nationality of Briedis fool you. Unlike his fellow countrymen he will not be coming to get beat... He will come to destroy Bellew something he can realistically do.

Bellew can beat this guy.

Vallily won Commonwealth Gold in Delhi if memory serves, he looked really good and a bit of a prospect during that tournament. His pro career has been stop start really and one would assume this is make or break to see not only what he has got but what he has left really now he is in his 30s.

Briedis is a tough ask for anyone and a huge step up for Valilly, remember thinking during the Commonwealth that he had some real potential but as I say it's just not worked out for a whole lot of reasons.

Looking at the record of Vallily it appears he hasn't dropped a round yet but has only fought journeyman. Massive step up, I'm a bit worried for him.

Briedis has appeared in lots of biggers better on Eurosport. Has a good amount of talent but I would like to see him fight at European Level a bit more before fighting Bellew.

I think he has the talent to cause an Upset against Tony, but has he the seasoning?

I rate Breidis highly. If I were in charge of a Cruiserweight champ I'd be doing everything in my power to avoid him and Oleksander Usyk.

Think valillys a bit of a paul sykes isn't he?

Think he was last in prison some time last year?

hopefully he's had a full camp and will treat this as the huge opportunity it is.

Looks the part from what I've seen. Has all the tools to give Bellew nightmares. Good fight. Both guys will be confident going in if it happens.

Also saw him taking people apart on Eurosport 5 years ago. He's been on my watch list since then. Ex kickboxer.

Brutal power. Like to see him step up

There'll be a few in Middlesbrough happy if he gets chinned...

I really rate him.

Bellew needs to give him a swerve. Huge risk/little reward.

I see the sky hype train building Lebedev as a pound for pound fighter similar to Linares and Bellew going for the unification.

I don't like the fight on the Bellew undercard. Simons a good fighter and no need to put him up in this class so quickly against someone so dangerous.

He would absolutely destroy Bellew. How do you think Bellew would deal with a 245lb man? Certainly not the way Briedis did. No way will Bellew fight this guy. He'll cash out against Haye instead. Same outcome, bigger payday.

Breidis is seriously dangerous.

The charr Ko at heavyweight was sickening

he does have a defeat in a prizefighter final that Boxrec don't recognise.

a matchup with Bellew would be very exciting. I think he'd win

When bellews mandatory is called he will vacate saying he has to because he wants to smash David Haye at heavyweight
