I've been getting on the intetnet highway or whatever you want to call it for years now.
All I can say is that the reporting on ESPN flat out stinks. Raphael isn't good for the sport at
all. He stinks.

Never laced up a pair of gloves in his life.
Couldn't run a mile either by the looks of it.

I don't usually read anything from Fat Dan except for fight announcements. He often has the scoop before other sources, so he's good for that at least.

If he could walk a mile I would be surprised, he seems to be spending his time digging at Tyson fury and BJS

He banned me from following his tweets, because I disagreed with his scoring on a fight.
Usually his scoring is okay, but sometimes he gets an idea in his head that one fighter is better and runs with it, rather than carefully watching what's actually happening.
How did less capable, less qualified people like Dan Rafael and Max Kellerman get their high-profile, high-paying jobs with ESPN? Kellerman was hired right after he finished school in the 1990s.

I don’t mind Dan Rafael that much, as the majority of his articles are informative and factually-based, such as news of bouts being made, injuries, fighters swapping trainers/promoters etc.
My only gripe is his lack of impartiality. He clearly shows favouritism for fighters and promoters affiliated to HBO. He also has a tendency to be negative towards most of the people involved with Haymon, Showtime, PBC etc. (i.e. anyone from across the proverbial street). He sometimes proclaims “duck” whilst attempting to ascertain only one side of the story… and he seems to be have offended quite a few British fighters also.
To be fair, boxing needs personalities, no matter how objectionable, because it adds to the overall entertainment value of the sport. I just hope that people don’t take his words as gospel at all times, as you need to take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

Very reliable info for upcoming fights. That's all I read him for and I don't read anyone else. His knowledge of the sports history is abysmal.

He spreads lies all over the place and tries to blackmail certain boxers while at the same time tries to work other boxers into heaven. He's simlly not an independant source, now that's oke, but then at least admit that, and also admit it if you're wrong. Many people are still waiting for his apology to Povetkin for example, this idiot has spreaded many lies around Povetkin and his situation.

He's purely an HBO Boxing puppet at this point. Atlas too. Kellerman too.

I find it hard to warm to anyone as fat as Dan. It just shows a total disregard for himself. Just a tub of lard with a mouth.

Could be said of almost everyone about something, but you just chose this group to direct your hate.

Well, at least he's doing it. Say what you want about Dan, but he has the heart and the will to make it, and has been doing it for quite some time now. Kudos to him for keeping on despite all the negative shit he's got to deal with, probably on a daily basis.
I personally don't really listen to him that much, or read much, if any as of lately of his stuff. But then again, I haven't been reading too much of boxing in general.

What do you think BJS would do? What would you want him to do?
BJS is an odious bully and I don't have any sympathy for him. He talks a hell of a lot more shit than Rafael does (he even called Rafael a pedo), takes pretty much any criticism as personal insult, and has done some nasty stuff outside the ring, such as impersonating a cop, ordering a guy to strip, and taping it; phoning a guy to brag about how he had sex with the guy's wife; and telling his kid to kick a random person in the balls then laughing when the kid did it. He seems to have the maturity of an obstreperous teenager, and to me he comes across far worse than Rafael does, regardless of how fat the latter is.
The bulk of what Rafael has written about him is true anyway. Max Bursak was a poor opponent, his next opponent is poor, he turned down superior opponents for the Canelo undercard, and he's waited until the top guys in the division had fights booked or were deep in negotiations to call them out.

True. He must lack self-respect since he allowed himself to become so obese.

I'm not denying any of that and I'm not a massive Saunders fan either. I'd just be intrigued to see what two blokes who have nothing in common and dislike each other, would have to say face to face

Not liking him has nothing to do with his weight; he's surly and arrogant and often comes off as extremely bias.

Raphael is a professional writer who is paid to provoke interest. He obviously has earned his keep, no matter his dimensions.

Dan Raphael is a paid newsmaker to announce fights and rather visible. That's part of the problem. Boxing actually has a good collection of writers, the trouble is they lack Raphael's connections and visibility.
I'm still waiting for one of these excellent writers to go streaming and charge a small amount for his best stuff, predictions, and such.
I actually think Max Kellerman who used to be biased and historically inaccurate is now decent. He can thank HBO for sticking with him for some pretty bad years.

I like the way Dan posts his hall of fame ballot for all to see every year.
He also explains why he voted for each fighter(if an explanation is needed) and explains why he did not vote for some solid candidates.
Nobody has a perfect scorecard.
Sometimes I have issues with Dan's scorecards and sometimes I don't.
That applies to the scorecards of every commentator and writer who covers boxing.
I have better things to do than keep track of how often their scorecards are close to mine.
Most of his writing is just reporting upcoming events and reviewing the fights that took place over the weekend.
I have no problem with Dan at espn. They can keep him until he retires or they can replace him tomorrow, I don't care either way.

Kellerman completely changed the way he scores fights to suit HBO.
This is far from the guy who made the rest of the crew look like idiots
when they were trying to goad the public into believing Floyd/DLH was a close fight in order to sell a rematch PPV.
This new Kellerman would be selling with the rest of them.

Most likely the most ignorant and bigoted thread I have read on Boxrec so far. I understand some of the animosity towards Rafael, but could some of you guys substantiate it a bit? Who gives a fornicate what the guys weighs, how he looks, eats etc.?
