Was my first thought but surely more pressure to make it now, couple of easy blow outs to introduce him to those that don't know much about him then a big fight with AJ

I don't think it will stop him being hugely avoided. I doubt someone like Pulev or Wilder will suddenly go 'oh well ok, we will fight him now.'

But in saying that he has to be the favourite in this WBA title tournament thing.

I think it's the opposite. They (Hearn and Joshua) could have just avoided him anyway- it's not like outside of hardcore boxing fans anyone knows who the hell he is. Most people who to watch Joshua fight have probably never even heard of Ortiz.

I actually think (naively possibly) that Hearn has signed Ortiz to match him up with Joshua down the line. However he's going to build Ortiz's profile up first on sky sports and on Joshua undercards so that when they do inevitably fight, Ortiz isn't just big risk but low reward. People will know who he is and how good he is and it will end up being a huge fight with all the sky sports marketing razz-a- matazz.

I wonder how he'll be matched.

Incidentally, I thought Golden Boy seemed to be doing an okay job with him, as they got him 4 National TV fights in under a year, the 2 best opponents of his career, and helped build him into one of the division's most well-regarded fighters despite his PED history. Maybe the pay wasn't very good....

Yeah I do wonder who he'll be matched with aswell. I don't think it will be Whyte as I think Hearn is gonna protect him somewhat to maybe build up a joshua rematch down the line.

Price perhaps? Lucas Browne? I'd genuinely fear for Price's wellbeing if that fight occurred though. Kinda how I'd feel if he fought Joshua aswell.

I think Price spends most of his time culminating lists of excuses as to why he can't fight anyone other than AJ.

Just so I'm up to speed.

We're now waiting until Monday, to hear an announcement on whats happening with AJ, Haye, Parker, Wlad, Ortiz and Fury's titles.
And they're all due to fight in November by the sounds of things and we've speculated every conceivable combination.
How many massive disappointments do we expect?

Rumours of Malik Scott for Ortiz

Good move for Hearn. I'd like to see more overseas fighters relocating over here. Fwank signing Tete was a shrewd move. Not sure if he has an agreement with Rigo as well.

Is is a bit mental.

Must be to keep him from AJ surely.

That Monaco card may be a belter.

Good signing from Fast Eddie, but can't help but think this is a smoke screen to further help AJ.

If I was AJ's promoter, I wouldn't let him near Ortiz, he's awesome when he's on his A game :box:

Errm no. He's manadatory, he can fight him without fighting Ortiz if he wants.

Only if Eddie allows it ,, You don't think promoters call the shots , have another look around He may well get a shot eventually , but not before its been stalled and stalled and stalled , to give AJ time to improve , and if he gets beat by Ortiz where is he then

Ortiz turns 38 in March, and he's getting fatter every fight. Also he's Cuban, so has "heavyweight failure" written in his stars. He'll enjoy a few more blowouts then be matched with a live body, like AJ, when he's old enough to be taken.
