Now that Fall is here,so now is time to sit back get a cup of hot tea and listen to some boxing radio broadcasts of yesteryear.

I tried to watch it with a silent YouTube video but the image and sound didn’t link up well; but you can create moments of perfect timing if you play with the pause buttons.

I love that the opening logo was a ‘Fireside Ticket’ – nice historical allusion; a witty ad man for his day.

The pre-fight announcements went on too long; non-stop hyperbole piled on top of even more hyperbole. You would think he was describing the battle of Thermopylae

The pre-fight 'let’s not all be racists' announcement caught me by surprise.

When the announcer was going on (and on, and on) about who was in the house: senators, movie stars, captains of industry, did you notice he included “racketeers”? – Senators and racketeers in the same sentence. - I guess the criminal element was always welcomed at prize fights.

The announcers (there were too many of them) spent more time apologizing for interrupting than actually making the announcement they were interrupting for. Really!

My favorite line: when the announcer tried to explain the ambience of the arena, he told his listeners: the ring is lit-up the way “an electric lightbulb lights up a dark cellar.” Needs work on his metaphors.

Worst line of the night: at fight’s end the announcer threw in one last plug for the sponsor; just after the KO, in the midst of the excitement, he slipped in: “The boys (seconds) are coming into the ring with the speed of a new Buick.” Ouch!

yeah,almost like an audio time tunnel back to the past.
