The fight is set on November 12 in Monte Carlo. I don't like Malik's chances at all in this fight. If he was knocked down hard by not the hardest hitting 44 y.o. Tony Thompson, Ortiz will put him to sleep. Unless somebody takes a dive before...

I'm guessing Ortiz has vacated the interim belt. So he should get a WBC and WBO ranking if he wins this.

Don't know if its relevant, but Scott is only top 15 in the WBC rankings. Maybe they're going to target that belt?

Yeah Hearn will try and take him either the WBC or WBO route. I think WBO is the best option as getting a fight with potentially Parker is much easier than getting a fight with Wilder.

Ortiz's power + Scott's weak chin = life-threatening head injury.

I guess the positive thing about this is Malik Scott is a name. His only losses are to Chisora and Wilder. I hope he doesn't go down easy like the Wilder fight. Last 3 fights after this will be Jennings, Thompson and Scott.. Not the best names in the division, but an improvement in his career.

Hearn's plan is to get Ortiz into the mandatory position so a champion has to fight him.

Takam would've at least been interesting, can't see anything but an Ortiz KO here.

Malik Scott is still tainted after that appalling dive against Wilder.

I’m not suggesting that Luis Ortiz is rubbish, it's just that he’s not achieved enough throughout his career to justify his reputation of being an indestructible behemoth omnipotent godlike human possessing a “fearsome” aura.

I think that people get too carried away in this forum.

Don't really know if he's being ducked or he's doing the ducking, but the only name on his resume is Jennings.

A good chin is more likely to get someone injured, since they can lead to someone taking a load of big punches for multiple rounds, instead of hem being out of there after a couple punches.

It's a forum, people will get carried away. Most posts are highly opinionated and some just lack the intelligence to present an objective argument.

I do feel sorry for Ortiz. He's come to the party incredibly late, and now he's on borrowed time to make the most of what he's got. He's 38 and only had 25 fights, which is the same number of fights as many in their early 20's. I think Scott is a perfect fight with Matchroom, short notice top 10 (according to BoxRec - but probably top 20), announces the relationship, and then gives them the chance to build to a bigger fight in the New Year, but he's probably going to have to take a hit financially to get the right fights cause his profile currently is zero. That said, I think the British public would warm to him pretty quickly.

This is for a WBA international or intercontinental so guessing they're going the WBA route

Meaningless that does nothing except stall a little more Luis Ortiz's already closing window of opportunity to get a little closer to shut. Other than a bit of money Ortiz gains virtually nothing from this fight.

This is a mismatch. I'd like to see Ortiz face someone other than Malik Scott.

Carlos Takam, who had a close fight with Joseph Parker (I scored it a draw), would have been much better.

Well he was signed to fight Takam and Takam pulled out to fight Duhaupaus. Theres not a whole lot Ortiz can do about that.

Based on Hearn's last interview on IFL, it makes perfect sense. Have this fight, probably another fight in December, another in spring, and that should be enough to sufficiently raise his profile to make a big fight in the summer.

Ortiz is dangerous and essentially unknown to the general public. There is nothing to gain for people to fight him - the financial rewards just do not exist currently. The people on here that believe he should be thrown in with Haye, Wilder, Klitchko immediately do not understand the game. Hearn has the task of trying to raise Ortiz's profile, thus making him a marketable fighter to the general public. He's in the best place, but we need to be patient. One year is not that long to wait to establish Ortiz - then target the big boys.

This match will end soon with a KO win by Ortiz. Scott has a fragile chin and weak power. Takam would have been so much better.
