A modern day great, he deserves his place with the former legends and Hall Of Famers already.

I think a 3rd fight with Barrera has to happen. Their trilogy would rank up there with Ali/Frazier and Zale/Garziano. Although I'd settle for El Terrible going in with next week's lightweight superfight winner too, of course .

Watching him go to war with Famoso today, I wondered how he might have got on with some of the ex greats at his weight:

Wifredo Gomez @ Super-bantam

Salvador Sanchez @ Featherweight

Alexis Arguello @ Jr Light.

Christ, what a question - I am actually tempted to pick Morales in all 3 dream fights. Although it is hard to call, I just think Morales would outwork them and I'm not sure could Gomez, Sanchez and Arguello have the power to KO him - after all, nobody has come close to stopping Morales thus far, and he's faced some big punchers in his career.

I agree, I hope we do get to see the rubber match (although for me its 2-0 to Barrera) with the other Mexican great. I was interested in the McGuigan now pitches Morales above Barerra in the all time standing. I haven't untill he said that (based on me believing Barerra won twice - the second fairly big). However, McGuigan raised a few good points in his argument, and I'm might be inclined to change my mind.

He would not outwork Sanchez thats something I do know. Erik's a terrific fighter but imo he'd go two war with all three but would lose. Erik has a good chin but ive seen him stunned on lots of occasions. Both Gomez and Arguello definately have the power to take him out, they are bigger punchers than anyone he's ever faced.

Morales is a great and will be spoken of as such for a long time after he has climbed through the ropes for the last time.

For me he beat Barrera the first time (by just a round) and the second time by a mile.

He is a fantastic fighter. To think a few years back I used to post on a couple of forums proclaiming that Hamed would knock him from pillar to post.....

I remember the Hamed talkers all to well, Morales would have beaten a prime Hamed and would have probably stopped the shell that Hamed became inside the distance. As for the Barrera fighta i thought he narrowly lost the first fight but clearly won the second.

Now I agree. I just thought at the time a Hamed-Morales fight was mooted, Morales got hit so much that if Hamed hit Morales the way Mculloch or Barerra hit him he would end up spark out.

I'd love to see a third fight with Barrera, but it's not going to happen. Morales looks like he's just about outgrown superfeather, whereas Barrera is a natural feather. I think it's much more likely that Morales moves up again and tries to win a title at lightweight. If the third fight with Barrera was to happen i think it would be fairly one-sided, and certainly no repeat of the first fight.

I've no idea how he'd get on going in against the fighters MightyWarrior mentions, i couldn't pick a winner with any sort of confidence. He definitely deserves to be mentioned alongside those fighters though. For me he's fought almost everyone he could in three weight divisions and i think he'll just be able to win a title in a fourth.

Watch the Bareera rematch with the sound down, makes a huge difference. I actually thought the first match was closer - I had Morales a round up going into the last, which had to be scored 10-8 to Bareera, but should have only been 10-9.

I thought Barerra won those early rounds in the rematch in which Jim and Ian were critical of his boxing approach. Thats how the judges saw it, I actually thought Morales was closing the gap towards the end (the complete opposite to the Sky team).

Glitter, you say the third match would be a forgone conclusion (I assume for Morales) but if its at a catchweight, would he struggle bigstyle - looking at Barerra last time, he looked back to his very best.

HBO fought morales won the second by 2 or 3 rounds. Foreman said he won it no doubt about it.

Morales would lose to all the three guys mentioned. He might have a chance agianst Gomez.
