Bellew

I get behind most British fighters - some of the really big fights I can't sit down and have to pace around the room

I don't get this with Bellew - he really doesn't float my boat and I'm sad to say I wouldn't mind him losing

I get a similar feeling with Eubank Jr at the moment though this might change if he progresses to bigger world fights against world opposition

I'm really patriotic but Bellew really gets under my skin

He grates on everybody I know as well.

He acts like a child in a mans body.

I thought Bellew was generally amiable when he was on here, and I didn't find it hard to have friendly interactions with him (very unlike Paul Smith). I think there may be a nice guy behind the bluster, although maybe his success has gone to his head.

Maybe i'm biased being from merseyside as I see him as 1 of the most passionate boxers out there. Heart on his sleeve and I think that's half the problem. Each to their own and I can definitely understand why people don't like him.

Didn't most of the forum want him to get smashed by Makabu ?

He's gone up in my estimation after that post fight interview though.

When he won the belt, although iv slated him in the past,i was happy for him as imo he is a british/european level fighter at best but now i hope bj flores knockes him out,why all the fuckin pantomine stuff at every presser. Who was the old guy behind bellew at the weigh in givin it the billy big balls? Didnt see him try to get past bellew to sort flores team out. Nothing but thugs imo,if u cant control yourself weigh in the get off the stage asap. Cant stand him hope them beady eyes go to kip on fight night

Bellew likes to have some rather nasty "well known characters" round him during fight week fran perry and mark quinn being two of them.

I'm from merseyside,a boxing fan and have follwed bellew since the ams.

It's been a pleasure watching the ups and downs of his pro career and obviously that night in goodison was the icing on the cake but if i wasn't from these parts and hadn't followed him from day one i really wouldn't take to him.

His behaviour on fight week is thuggish and that of a bully and the "ex security bosses" he surrounds himself who are desperate for a bit of camera time themselves don't help that image much as was seen yesterday.

Don't mind him or really see what all the fuss is about. He obv has to work himself into a state to get his mind right, but other than that he seems a decent family man type of character.

I think he maybe a bit underated skills wise cos he's not exciting. He's won everything there is to win inc 3 ABAs which is no mean feat, so obv he's got soimething.

Can't really believe in 2016 that people take what happens at press conferences seriously, its all panto.

but theres no need to act like a 12 year old scholl bully. acting up just reinforces a negative image for the sport, grown men need to grow up. plus its always the quiet ones who are the hardest

Bellew always comes across as a nice guy to me - it's only when he's working himself up in the build-up to a fight (which is a waste of energy imo) that he behaves like an idiot.

Yeah he comes across a decent enough guy most of the time. I'd imagine away from boxing he's quite a nice guy. He does grate a bit in the build up to fights though as you say.

To be fair to The Boomer, a fair percentage of his fights are dull, he doesn't really look the part and isn't really ever going to be able to challenge the elite in his division. Yet he has headlined PPV, has a world title and even stared in a Hollywood film. He in constantly on tv or radio when a boxing subject is discussed and one of the most recognisable fighters in the country.

His mouth is his greatest asset. Might get him some stick, but it's probably earnt him a very decent retirement.

He does my napper in. All this "just get up and fight, that`s what I do, I get up and fight, simples as that". Not against Adonis you didn`t, you turned your back and went out with a whimper.

He is just a bully and his behavior pre fights is embarrassing. All this, "If you step to me your going down". Grow up.

I was happy for him when he beat Makubu, but his interviews make me cringe. I`m rooting for Flores tonight by KO.

Anyone with BJ as a first name gets my respect.

I`ve nothing against scouser per se, but there is a tendency to whinge and play the oppressed drama queen. Like in the footy when I hear some Liverpool fan saying "This club DESERVES to be winning trophies". No, you get what you deserve and if you aint good enough you just aint good enough. Get over it.

The fact that they have more full kit wankers than all the others clubs put together says it all really.

Still I reckon Boomer loves his nan more than BJ.

Local "hardnuts" maybe? Dime a dozen, plenty of mouth but the courage disappears when faced with someone who can physically match them ( or in Flores case, physically outmatch them by a country mile )

Seeing that old codger on the stage shouting his mouth off when standing behind Bellew was the most embarassing part of the weigh in! He was the second cock on view in a matter of minutes :OhYes:

Tony the man is an absolute gent and great to be around; he is really well liked and respected

Bomber the boxer does do and say some cringeworthy stuff and even close circles roll their eyes at some of it

All that said and done if that is his routine to get into fight mode then so mote it be.
