Is this seriously being discussed? Would be a very interesting fight if so. Smith seems like a strong, hard hitting fighter, but didn't look particularly refined against Fonfara. Hopkins obviously is one of the craftiest guys around, but who knows how he'll be able to do at this stage of his career. It'd be an intriguing fight.

A deal is in place for 51-year-old ring legend Bernard Hopkins to face upset specialist Joe Smith Jr. in an HBO main event on Dec. 17 at the Forum in Inglewood, California, multiple sources told RingTV.com on Monday morning.

The planned co-feature is Takashi Miura against Orlando Salido. The card is being described as Hopkins’ farewell fight.
