About When Did Boxers Start Using PED's

I just watched a couple of fights on Youtube from the late seventies/early eighties and it is clear to me that my favorite fighters of all time were fighting before the PED scourge in modern sports. I'm thinking that things changed around the mid-eighties. What do you guys think?

Not sure but imagine Ali on them or getting drip fed vitamin's he would have been DEADLY

I'm pretty sure they had PEDs around then. It's just no one thought about it because it wasn't regulated nor illegal. Athletes been using steroids forever.

Its not fair to name names and malign these world class boxers unfairly.
But certainly in the 1980s and 1990s there were some british middleweights , up to light heavyweights I was pretty sure were on steroids.the quality of their physiques was incredible in terms of at that weight to hold that quality of muscle while being known for cardio too.
Its clear what kind of stuff they were using too which was very different to what say a bloated james toney got caught with

Amphetamines have been used for many years. They were used quite a lot in the 40's and 50's, especially in the states.

Weren't the turn of the century guys taking coke between rounds etc. All sorts of stimulants were involved back then I'm sure.

Bob Hazelton was an early case from the 1960s. steroids in his case.
