Boxing is popular in NZ, but NZ is a small country. It mean small money from TV and smaller commercial sponsors...lefty wrote:I don't see why the government should be expected to fund it anyway. The minister made good points- he said funding is norally only given to big events that really boost the economy ie events like the olympics or rugby world cups or whatever. As good as Parker is and he is a top heavyweight- I can't see him bringing a huge boom of tourism to New Zealand or generating huge amounts of money for the country at large.
I don't even know how popular boxing is in New Zealand bar the interest in Parker due to him having the potential fighter which is rare for New Zealand boxing.
Not big enough then to really sustain Parker having big fights there then it would seem.bigman1968 wrote:Boxing is popular in NZ, but NZ is a small country.
