Former WBA continental light-welterweight champion Tommy Martin has retired from boxing after suffering a bleed on the brain following January's loss against John Wayne Hibbert.
An MRI scan revealed the injury after the previously undefeated 22-year-old lost the Commonwealth title fight.
The British Boxing Board of Control stopped a boxing return and he thanked them for "probably saving my life".
"Unfortunately for me this is the end of the road as a boxer," Martin added.
Martin, a former Peterborough United youth-team player, will now work with young fighters.
"It is now time to turn this negative into a positive by putting all the passion and fire I have back into other fighters," he said.

Ah gutted for the lad, only 22 and being told you can't do the thing you love. He was a decent enough young prospect who probably could have come again given time and maturity. Best of luck to him in the future.

It's the right decision. A bleed on the brain is VERY dangerous...
Boxing is dangerous enough as it is without that....

Did anyone say it was the wrong decision?

Saw this the other day. Real shame gutted for the bloke.
Saw him on a couple of undercards and ultimately saw him beat Boylan who I was there to support.

Good luck to him. He was a good fighter who I felt would improve dramatically after the loss.
He'd be a good influence in any gym seems to have his head switched on.
Another example of why we have the best board in the world. Loads of commissions would of let him box on around the world.

Saw the video
He did well to keep himself together, it's going to be difficult as you can tell he lives and breathes the sport. I hope Kieran Farrell has got in touch with him as he had to retire at a young age as well.
Good luck to him

Good luck to the man. Must be hard but there's always more to life than any sport or career.

Good luck to him. Must be very hard to take but better to get the diagnosis and get out with his health. Wish him well.
