Bilal Akkawy moved to 14-0-1 in stopping Kerry Hope in 7 rounds in Sydney and in the process won the WBA Oceania super middleweight title.

Akkawy, who broke Hope's jaw and dislodged a few of his teeth as well, said afterward :

“I know I was the underdog. Hope was experienced and stood there and he didn’t run. I was pacing myself and wasn’t expecting an early knockout. He came out fast but I stayed calm and relaxed, picked my shots and broke him down.”

I must admit going into this one I had the far more experienced Hope winning. Not sure where the loss leaves the 35 year old Hope. But Akkawy is on the way up.

Akkaway can obviously punch like his Dad. He looks young but with this fight it shows he can handle the experienced campaigners.
They tell me one of the best fights you would see was between Mick Akkaway and Darren Obah in the amateurs. I didn't see the fight but heard about it a few times.

“Kerry Hope was my toughest fight. It was a good test but I knew I was in control of the fight. I felt calm and relaxed. I knew he was trying to take me into the deep end in the later rounds but that didn’t worry me" - Bilal Akkawy.
