Apparently had no amateur career of note, already drew with a 1-1-1 opponent, and scored his best pro win over shopworn Gavern in an awful fight.
Why does he get mentioned so regularly? Does he sell a lot of tickets? Related to someone important?

Gym rumors, mostly about him having granite chin. Also a fan character on Twitter. Essentially a boxings answer to Karl Pilkington.

Same thing happened with Larry Olubamiwo.
He was touted as a very good prospect at the time by many. Plenty were picking him to go far. "He's trained at the wildcard with Freddie!" etc.

Why does he get mentioned so regularly?
Perhaps you could start a thread to see why people start threads on him.

Hes promoting himself and trying to get fights and earn a crust. What's the problem?

I'm curious about why his name is even mentioned in the first place; I doubt that 'curiosity about why his name is mentioned is so much' is the answer I'm looking for.

Is anyone suggesting that there's a problem with that?

You don't have to think someone is especially good to like them.

Allen is an articulate and appealing heavyweight and as such is a nice counter weight to the Whyte-Chisora modus vivendi. He is also actually a pretty good defensive fighter and seems very durable; lack of handspeed and reach seem to be his main offensive limitations.
