Manny Pacquiao to be a Free Agent on 1st January, 2017?

According to Bob Arum, HBO released Manny Pacquiao from his exclusive contract with them after they failed to televise the Vargas bout.
Also, looking back at some old articles, Manny's contract with Top Rank is allegedly supposed to expire on the 31st December, 2016.
Therefore, it seems that Pacquiao could potentially be a free agent from the beginning of next year (or at the very latest, immediately after his next bout, as he was previously obliged to compete twice a year).
I wonder if Floyd attended Manny's fight against Vargas to try and tempt him to join TMT/Haymon/Showtime, because Mayweather and Pacquiao could both earn a lot more money from their rematch if only one promoter and one TV network covers the bout?

It will be interesting to see how Top Rank made out financially with their PPV event last weekend. Personally, I loved it. I enjoyed the announcing crew (even though Stephen A can't count), I thought that women doing the interviews and lead ins were fantastic and I especially loved the production value and special effects. I think that this may change the landscape a bit and take power away from the big networks. Why pay HBO when Top Rank can put a show like that together. I gave it an A-.
Manny gave several interviews after the fight and replied multiple times that his next fight was up to Bob Arum so i don't think that he's leaving TR. I think that HBO was just looking for a way to release Manny after his homophobic remarks last year. I'm sure there's something in the contract that allowed HBO to break ties should Manny fight outside of the contracted agreement. So it was just a matter of time.

The two-year contract extension that Manny signed with Top Rank in 2014 is definitely coming to a close, as it’ll either terminate on the 31st December, 2016 or immediately after the completion of his next bout. I think the latter is more likely since Pacquiao was originally obliged to compete twice a year, but he only fought once during 2014.
Of course, there’s a distinct possibility that Pacquiao will sign another contract with Bob Arum out of pure loyalty, which could be the most likely scenario, but I don’t think that’ll deter other promoters from trying to poach him.
That being said, Manny openly admits that he continues fighting because he needs the money. And the best way for him to maximise his income is to allow TMT and Showtime to stage his rematch against Mayweather. He’ll be entitled to a bigger slice of the proverbial “pie” if HBO and Top Rank are excluded from the equation.
Also, Pacquiao will surely realise that it’s in Top Rank’s best interest for him to eventually engage in a “passing of the torch” type bout against one of their young elite-level lions (i.e. Crawford or Lomachenko), but he may be reluctant to play the role of the sacrificial lamb, if he isn’t going to get paid handsomely.
Whatever happens, I think we’re in for some interesting developments over the next six months and I feel that the Mayweather-Pacquiao saga will continue into 2017.

It had nothing to do with Manny's verbiage, it's about Kovalev/Ward. Two PPV's in 3 weeks sandwiching a UFC card that is stacked to the roof is bad business.

This thread is about Manny Pacquiao, not Oscar De La Hoya, but thanks anyway... your random posts about Oscar is making yourself look much more foolish and inept about the sport of boxing than any insults I could have thrown at you.
So you're into self-harming? I've never communicated with a masochist before.

None of the boxing pundits in the know believe that this was the case. Manny became undesirable with those comments not to mention, he lost many fans and HBO subscribers at the same time.

In 2012, Manny Pacquiao allegedly quoted the Bible calling for the death of homosexuals. He initially claimed he was misquoted and denied what was reported, but he ended up making a fool of himself in 2016, when he actually tweeted the very same verse immediately after getting dropped by Nike for making other anti-gay remarks. So he does lie.
In 2014 he said gay people are "worse than animals”. He even made the very same claim again earlier on this year. This led to Nike dropping him… and when questioned about the media furoure, he told BS,
“I'm not bothered... Jesus lives in me, so I'm always happy.”
The thing is… despite Manny’s long history of dodgy remarks about gays etc. this didn’t stop him earning about $230m for the Mayweather Jr. fight. And this didn't stop HBO renewing their contract with him or televising his PPV's.

Are these opinions Manny's fault or God's fault?
Why are we blaming the follower?
Some people will believe what their parents tell them for the rest of their lives.
That's not their fault. Why should we naturally doubt our parents and society?
Perhaps we need to start vilifying the thing that CLEARLY tells people to think like this.

You pretty much answered this yourself, James. Why do you think HBO decided to take a stand against Manny now? Because they would never have dropped Manny when he was bringing in the numbers that he was and they would never drop him with a Floyd fight looming. HBO only took the stand when they had the most to gain from it. They get the good publicity for standing up against a homophobe, save money on promoting a fading star in the box office and come out on the moral side of the equation.
Sure, PPV events so close together are a factor but HBO had the power to move dates for either fight. The truth is that they let it happen because they knew they knew the relationship was over.
So HBO is using Manny's words as the deciding factor in not continuing their support of him but we all know that it's really 100% about the money. They've already tipped Manny upside down and emptied his pockets as much as they can. They can't make any more money off of him.

Says the homophobic. If you turned your TV onto anything else but SportsCenter and Porn, you'd notice what's going on the world with equality and human rights. But stay in your Dorito's coma if you want but some day, you'll want to look through the dozens of empty cup-o-soup containers and spit cups that line your coffee table and find the clicker.
