The Sky Sports ‘King Kong’ Hype Machine!

"'The Real King Kong' Luis Ortiz ready to finally announce himself"

"They call him 'The Real King Kong' and even the original on-screen gorilla might think twice before arguing with that. Ortiz, the unbeaten heavyweight, might be the most dangerous man in the sport...

"Ortiz has been too good for his own good. For years, the risk of fighting him wasn't worth it to your piggy bank...

"His amateur record is said to be 343-19 but again, it is impossible to verify exactly how many crumpled bodies the enigma has left in his wake...

"He fled to Miami, specifically the 5th Street Gym that Muhammad Ali called home, to join the paid ranks but has remained no more than a haunting figure in the nightmares of world heavyweight champions...

"Ortiz, who at 37 is battle-hardened yet unscathed... and it will take serious force to drag King Kong down from the tower."

Now that Luis Ortiz has signed with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Promotions, he’s automatically affiliated to Sky Sports.

Therefore, it’s easy to predict that Sky Sports will now start marketing his name heavily, but do you think they’re going overboard?

You mean Sky Sports are doing their job? I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think they’re overselling Ortiz… to the point that their exaggerated description of his talents and reputation is quite humorous.

This. :TU:

He's a big hitting beast, who is new to the channel. What are they supposed to do? Say he's sh1te!?!?!?

Some people will find a way to moan about anything.

He's a great fighter, arguably matchroom's best fighter right now.

Nobody hates Sky & Hearn more than me, but like alot of other fans i think Ortiz is genuinely the best HW in the world.

I'm more concerned about Hearns motives of signing him. Knowing Hearn he'll try to time this perfectly... let KK smash some tomato cans then set up the Joshua fight once he 'gets old overnight' which will inevitably happen.

Don't worry. 'Enlightened one' just doesn't rate him hence he felt the need to create this thread.

You seem to be a very big supporter of Eddie and sky.

Ortiz in my eyes is one of the few matchroom fighters over the years that has been worthy of the sky hype train.

This isn’t about me “not rating” Ortiz. It’s about Sky Sports’ embellishing Ortiz’s ability and reputation to hideously comical proportions.

For sure, the Cuban appears to be a very good, but unproven, heavyweight prospect. However, his abilities and resume does not warrant the lavish praise that Sky Sports have heaped upon him.

Did you actually read the first post in this thread? :OhYes:

I'm a fan of boxing. I love the sport. Hearn is an excellent promoter and SKY put boxing on the TV for me to watch. I like them because they give me what I want. I look at the positives instead of moaning about almost everything like you.

You've already commented in other threads that you didn't think he was particularly any good.

Its an article that Sky are using to try and promote a guy that doesn't speak any or very little English. Why do you care?

I'm happy for them to hype him as much as possible, if it means we get to see him in action in some meaningful fights.

I don't understand why anyone would be remotely bothered by a fluff piece; if in turn it helps lead to the kind of matchups we want to see.

Yep. I think Fugmo is more interested in arguing and slagging off the sport than discussing boxing.

fugmo, is this is an acronym?

Frigging ugly, gay, mammoth orifice? I'm just freewheeling here, I've nothing against homosexuals, I just thought it vaguely amusing.

I really like the look of Ortiz, but he's still pretty much an emerging fighter at nearly 40. Hopefully he gets moved very quickly from now on.
