Arnulfo Obando was reported to have been in critical condition earlier in the week but now the unfortunate news that people were dreading has been confirmed by the WBC.

Obando, trainer to pound for pound boxing number one Roman Gonzalez, suffered a stroke last week and this week was reported by Boxing Scene to have been brain dead in the hospital treating him.

However the WBC (World Boxing Council) have now officially confirmed the following of Obando’s sad passing yesterday (November 10th) on their official website:

It is understood that Roman Gonzalez will be taking an extended break from his boxing career following the tragic passing of his trainer.
Gonzalez (46-0-38 KOs) last fought back in September when he outpointed Carlos Cuadras via a unanimous decision at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

The win made Gonzalez the first ever four weight world champion from his home country of Nicaragua.

Obviously this is gonna be a bitter pill to swallow for Chocolatito. I hope he's able to bounce back from it, and soldier on every bit as effectively as he had before.

RIP to Mr. Obando

... "maybe he'll come back stronger like Rocky did after Mickey died".
They think Rocky was real fighter. :OhYes:
