Luis Ortiz: First on my list would be Deontay Wilder, he’s talking s**t!

Go back a few months, and Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz could scarcely get himself an opponent, let alone a big name or a reigning champion. But, having signed with Matchroom, the big, powerful and previously avoided southpaw is closer than ever to the big, big fights his talents deserve. This doesn’t mean Ortiz will get all he wants – he must first get past Malik Scott tomorrow night in Monaco – but the likes of Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua are at least possibilities now.

And “King Kong,” unbeaten at 25-0(22) told Sky Sports that his top choice of opponent for the coming 12 months would be WBC champ Wilder.
“Over the next 12 months, on my list first would be Deontay Wilder, he’s talking [expletive],” Ortiz said. “Other than that, the big names – Fury, Joshua, anybody who has a belt. I definitely don’t do a lot of talking, it’s not what I do. What I do is box. I don’t like to talk. On fight night, I just like to come and fight.”

Bad performance the other night by Ortiz or not, wilder would come to fight.. That's bad news for wilder because he get destroyed by Ortiz! He's so chinny to just can't see wilder doing anything with the big Cuban but lose to him!

Well I think it's not quite as simple as that. We're talking about a guy who can pack a punch himself, and has in my opinion shown he can take the odd shot. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's been super wobbled by anyone, but he absorbed some decent shots from Stiverne without looking too flustered.

I think this is a lot more 50/50 than people think, and the extra range that Wilder possesses, could be a close one. I opted for Wilder here, but it is very 50/50 for me.

You are referring to the Ortiz who looked like garbage the other night against Scott, right?

The same Scott who was blown away in seconds by Wilder, right?

The Cuban appeared to be little more than a plodding, aging fighter who would be cannon fodder for the Bronze Bomber.

"King Kong," my arse.

He looks more like Mickey Mouse.

Before Ortiz vs. Scott, Ortiz would have been ahead on this poll.. looks like people have got off the King Kong train.

I don't think the Scott fight is a true indication of Ortiz's talent. I think he is trouble for any heavy, but I would pick Wilder if they fight.

You mean the ko punch vs wilder that didn't even land?? Hit his gloves and he shat his pants! Scott ran away for 12 rounds, didn't throw a shot for 7 or 8 rounds, if your judging him on that then your a complete fool! What about Jennings who went 12 with klitschko and had never been on the floor??? He came to throw shots and look what happend! You'll see soon enough!

Wilder-Ortiz would generate tremendous fan interest... It would be both boxer's best payday and rich for promoters... So why it can't get made???

I hate to break it to Ortiz, but he's ranked Top 10. Meaning he's ranked far too high for Wilder to ever consider fighting him.
