ONE of Wales' brightest boxing talents has appeared in court accused of assault. Unbeaten lightweight Gavin Rees appeared at Blackwood magistrates' court yesterday after being charged with wounding with intent on one man and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on another.
The 24-year-old was charged following an alleged incident in Newbridge on July 26.
Dressed in jeans and a black T-shirt, Rees only spoke to confirm his name and address.
Rees's 20-year-old brother, Nathan, was also charged with the same two offences.
Chairwoman of the bench, Pat Crawford, ordered the pair to appear before Newport crown court on August 12 for a preliminary hearing. The Rees brothers were released on bail with the condition they do not visit Pantside social club

Is his T-Shirt logo supposed to be ironic?

What a prick turning up to court in that t-shirt.

Hardly engenders sympathy does it?

It is an eye-opener spending a day or two in Mags court. A constant stream of low-life sacks of shit, occasionally punctuated by decent people who have made a mistake and want to get it sorted out. Or who haven't done anything but realise they need to show respect, even if it's not meant.

You would not believe the amount who turn up in football tops, clutching their Burberry baseball caps. Or maybe you would. Then when their legal aid appointed solicitor tries his best, the magistrate attempts to take a fiver a week out of their benefit...and realises he can't because the obviously healthy specimen in front of him has managed to get himself on incapacity benefit, from which no deductions can be made.

I sound like a should be writing for the Daily Mail but I'm from a dyed-in-the-wool, north-east, left-wing working class family. Lots of hyphens there.

If Rees turned up in front of me with that T shirt on, I'd just think "Well, here's a lad showing me and the court no respect whatsoever."

Am I right in thinking that Gavin Rees was once accused of assaulting his girlfriend?
