Tom 'sailor' Sharkey vs 'Boston gob' Jack Sharkey

Brawler vs boxer. Tom the shorter tougher inside fighter and Jack the taller boxer, how do we see this going.

Between them they faced most top heavyweight from Sullivan to Louis with some impressive wins and high profile defeats.

How do you see it playing out?

Sharkey wins.

Tom Sharkey was one of Jack Sharkey's idols... The other was Jack Dempsey -- so he took the first name of 1 and the last name of the other.

The Jack Sharkey who was beating Jack Dempsey before he caught a very low blow -- would probably outbox the Tom Sharkey who lost to Jim Jeffries

Jack Sharkey was very inconsistent. At his best, I would pick him. He didn't have the power to stop Sharkey, but he could have outpointed him. However, Tom Sharkey would win about a 1/3 of the time.

I agree, Jack Sharkey was inconsistent - don't really know jack about Sailor Tom's capabilities - I find it really hard to get a true assessment of pre-film era fighters (circa 1920); you read, but you know the sources are bias. I won't pick, it would just be a guess. I wonder if fight fans in the future will be able to view analog video ('70s and '80s) or will they be limited to only those fights that get transposed now to digital.

Tom Sharkey - on what is written - was a very dirty fighter. Combine this with Jack's tempestuous personality and you're probably looking at a road rage incident in the ring. But I do feel Jack would keep the head long enough to utilize that pole-like jab of his to outpoint Sailor Tom.
