Is it just me or does he look in pretty poor nick here by his usual standards?

I am told that he doesn't like being told what to do in the gym.lefty wrote:Is it just me or does he look in pretty poor nick here by his usual standards?

Interesting, as I'd never really thought of Groves as a banger at world level, but his jab when it's got it on point is a thing of beauty.Grilling Machine wrote:but I don't think he's a naturally talented athlete, just a naturally hard puncher.
I saw a vid of stevo recently doing Some highly impressive crossfit kind of shit. He looked in better nick than when he was fighting!Grilling Machine wrote:I don't think he's ever been in amazing condition visually, but then again, I get the feeling he doesn't drain much. Calzaghe was never cut, but his fitness told a different story.
I remember Froch talking about his running routine after their second fight, and I've long suspected that that was the key to his wins. I've no doubt that Groves trains hard, but I don't think he's a naturally talented athlete, just a naturally hard puncher. Before he retired, I'd have bet big on Froch against Groves in a parkrun! Maybe in front of 800 people.
'Course, that's only part of the story; Steve Robinson's a brilliant athlete to this day.
Yeah he runs a gym in Cardiff, he is absolutely ripped!Stevieb8006 wrote:I saw a vid of stevo recently doing Some highly impressive crossfit kind of poo. I take your point, but on the flip side he hasn't stopped a single one of the world class opponents he's faced. He''s a stiff hitter, but his biggest wins have been driven by boxing ability rather than power, which is where I felt the original post was a little bit misleading.Tomasino wrote:Deserter wrote:Interesting, as I'd never really thought of Groves as a banger at world level, but his jab when it's got it on point is a thing of beauty.Grilling Machine wrote:but I don't think he's a naturally talented athlete, just a naturally hard puncher.
Not even when he knocked Froch down hard? He's always had a rep as a hard hitter, Groves.

With a little research you'll realise Shane McGuigan actually invented the sport of boxing.lefty wrote:Interesting that Keith. Wouldn't hugely shock me if true. Shane Mcguigan comes from a strength and conditioning background himself and I imagine there's a S&C coach of good standing who they have onboard aswell. Frampton always looks in tremendous condition so it can't be the team he has around him.
Just pissed myself (literally) at this comment.lillywhite14 wrote:With a little research you'll realise Shane McGuigan actually invented the sport of boxing.lefty wrote:Interesting that Keith. His first knockdown of Paul "Smigga" Smith was his best shot.Tomasino wrote:Deserter wrote:I take your point, but on the flip side he hasn't stopped a single one of the world class opponents he's faced. I actually agree. His big knockdown of Froch was from a hard punch that Froch didn't see.
I also think he looks in terrible condition in the picture.

But Eddie would have us believe that smigga is world level. So he has KO'd a world level fighter in eddies world.mickey1975 wrote:His first knockdown of Paul "Smigga" Smith was his best shot.Tomasino wrote:Deserter wrote: I take your point, but on the flip side he hasn't stopped a single one of the world class opponents he's faced.
