I thought he figured him out and was timing him. I'll have to watch it again. He still lost, though.

Ward figured him out, worked out the timing & distance. Combine that with Kovalev weakening due to the bodyshots & his total inability to cut off the ring effectively, I would say Ward won it.

The judges fell in love with Wards comeback and gave him the benefit of every doubt over the last 6 rounds. He did come back well and Kovalev did get away from some of the things that had given him such a strong hold on the fight, but no way did Ward sweep the last 6 rounds as 2 of the judges reckoned. Ward edged the fights 2nd half but Kovalev still had his successes. That wasn't reflected on the official cards....Kovalev was very hard done by, He should still have his belts today.

It was close and so close I think Kovalev should have retained his title and belts. There has to be a rematch.

Just watched some of this fight Ward was very poor to what he has been, kovalev threw it away there I reckon should have come on stronger as he was well within his capabilities.

115-112 Ward for me,torrid start and even without the knockdown Andre looked a bit shocked with Kovalev's power and ability to land easily,Ward regrouped well though and showed his class and experience, I had him sweeping the last 6 rounds,Kovalev looked a bit bewildered and couldn't make his punches count, wasn't a great fight but I'm not surprised

I thought round 10 was one of the easiest to score. A clear Kov round. But I guess we all see something different.

Kovalev won it and got robbed in my eyes ,in what rounds did Ward look really dominant ? can't think of any
Some close rounds that could have gone either way but no dominant ones .

Bet Kovalev will fancy the rematch more than Ward .

Ward getting the close rounds...and round 10 on the cards, said it all, Kova should have known better than to trust the likes of Glen Trowbridge (who gave Khan 1 round against against Canelo),

There's no way Ward won round 10 , I just don't understand how anybody could have seen it that way .

Neither, kov won but the judges gave it to ward, all the close rounds were given to ward cause judges score hugging in favour of the offender

The only round i can think of were ward was the clear of was round 7 he came out with intent, before then i had kov winning every round so that makes him 60-53 up with 6 to go so even if ward won every round from then on it would of been same score as judges had but to kov

Same scorecard for me.

Ward figured him out and started hitting him on the way out of exchanges.

Considering there's so much difference in opinion over the scoring of the fight, I really don't understand why so many people are claiming a robbery. Even the most adamant complainers tend to only have Kovalev up by a few rounds, so it's not difficult to see that it was a close fight.

Agreed, seems most thought Kovalev won but it was a close fight either way, apart from the 1st couple of rounds when Kovalev was hurting Ward, there weren't any real clear rounds,I just preferred the punch selection from Andre albeit only single shots and no sustained attacks plus I thought he landed more body shots 2nd half than Kovalev landed anywhere

It wasn't THAT close. Kovalev clearly won. It's interesting that almost everyone that gave Ward the verdict did by a point yet people that gave it to Kovalev generally gave it by three rounds sometimes more.

It's clear who really won the fight.

As I mentioned in another thread, Kovalev will kick himself that he didn't put this beyond all doubt.

After he dropped Ward he could have finished the fight with another decent shot but inexplicably was overly cautious which allowed Ward's head to clear. If you watch the fight again Ward was in all kinds of trouble after the knock down. His legs were gone and he looked utterly shell shocked. One more decent shot there would have finished it I'm certain.

I think Kovalev won by a couple of rounds but he should have continued to press the action in the second half of the fight. I think he thought he had it won after 6 rounds and could just coast to a win knowing that Ward couldn't hurt him which is a dangerous game given there were 3 US judges. I think next time he'll want to put it beyond doubt by going more strongly for the KO.

Ward was calm under pressure after the knockdown, he was hurt for sure, but his legs weren't gone, because he then used movement to stay away from Kovalev's follow ups.

I feel Kovalev let himself down in the second half of the fight. After the knock down I felt it would be hard for Ward to win but he more or less got his range and that body work was on point !

Not really as more people had Ward winning than Kovalev wide

TBH I watched the fight rough as fcuk from the night before but I won't watch it again as I didn't enjoy it and the thought of a rematch bores me no end

I've never claimed to know everything about boxing or even be good at scoring fights,in fact I've had a bit of a mare in the last couple of weeks,I won't argue that Kovalev deserved the win as I can accept what the majority of people thought but no one is gonna tell me the vast majority rounds weren't close whatever peoples final tallies were

As I said I may be shite at scoring fights but I score it how I see it on the night,no bias whatsoever as I'd only be lying to myself and I would have no real clue as to I thought won a fight, 1 thing I also make a point of not doing is score a closer round to the other guy as I'm worried my cards getting to wide,I had Ward winning but Kovalev definitely won the clearer rounds even before the knockdown Andre looked a bit shell shocked by Kovalev's power, the thing is without a knockdown or a real beating, wide and close rounds give you 10-9,Ward for me had more close rounds as i preferred his work, rounds were similar so I'm gonna decide to prefer Krushers work to make it fair

Ward out thought him. He struggled early and made the adjustments required to win. I think he would win by a bigger margin in a rematch, i dont think kovalev will adapt to beat ward over 12 rounds.
better boxer won.
