Ward/Kovalev rematch: Yeah right, it wouldn't sell even on free TV and no one cares to see it!

There is talk about a rematch between Kovalev and Ward. But in all honesty, there isn't enough public interest for a rematch. It wouldn't sell. Even if it was offered for free, viewership would be low. Last night's fight hardly sold (empty seats, low PPV numbers) and a rematch would do even worse. Even on free TV the fight could flop. Larry Merchant recently had an interview today where he said a rematch wouldn't sell because frankly no one cares anymore.
If anything the sport lost fans from last night's fight. Majority of people had Kovalev winning (60%+ according to poll here), Kovalev scored a knockdown and outlanded Ward, yet the judges gifted the fight to the well connected American Ward.
Boxing loses all credibility as a sport after decisions like that and it explains why boxing has been relegated to being such an unpopular, small, underground sport.
Its amazing to note that bars don't even show boxing anymore. They've stopped showing boxing completely all over North America. Nobody cares or wants to watch boxing anymore. This sport is on the death bed.
A rematch? Lol last night was so hurting they could do a rematch on Cable TV and still nobody would watch. This sport is hurting bigtime. If Ward is p4p #1 this sport is in the garbage can. Ward cant even draw 5,000 people to the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Nobody really cares about boxing anymore. Im not at all interested in a rematch. Even if it was free, Im still not interested. More than anything I understand why nobody follows this sport in the first place.
Frankly no one follows boxing anymore and frankly no one cares anymore.

I think we should all be talking about a great close fight, and getting hyped for the rematch.
Instead, guys like you who CAN'T SCORE FIGHTS or have racist ideologies (like Kearney),
are ruining a good night for boxing.

I read on bscene that Kovalev is exercising his immediate rematch clause in the contract, and Ward can't have an interim fight in the meantime.

You are the one who can't score fights. Ward was outlanded, and in no way his punches were more meaningful than Kovalev's. Kovalev also owned the ring.

Ward was outfought and outboxed. There is a rematch clause and no doubt kovalev will exercise it. I doubt I'll see it, but hopefully the judges get it right next time.

Honestly at this point boxing is on its death bed. Bars dont even show the fights anymore like they used to. None of mainstream media even bothered to cover the Ward/Kovalev fight because frankly no one cares!
Im not at all interested in a rematch and quite frankly Im no longer interested in the sport. After last nights judging the sport has lost all credibility. Maybe thats why no one follows this sport to begin with. Its a sport that never had any credibility to begin with.
Lol @ empty seats in the arena for this supposed "super fight"
Lol @ a combined salary of 7 million between the sport's supposed top 2 fighters. Thats peanuts compared to other sports and really shows how unpopular boxing has become.
Lol @ mainstream media not even mentioning the "super fight"
Lol @ Ward not even being able to draw 5000 fans to see his fights at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
This is a sport that no one even watches anymore because its just too sh1t...

If the only result of this fight is that it chases squealing little pigs away from the sport and site, that is a positive result.
Anyone not interested in this rematch should stick to their crochet and tango classes. I can't wait for the rematch.

Your opinion carries no leverage since you are not a fan of the sport of boxing.
You should revise how you use your free time, because it doesn't seem to be psychologically acceptable to frequent a forum covering a sport that you openly admit to disliking.

I'd love to see a rematch in Russia to help boost Russian boxing, these guys have been coming to our back yard for ages now and I feel it only right we should do a goodun for them.
Andre Ward is an honorable man let's see if he can back it up.

Frankly you're a moron... Boxing is bigger than ever globally and draws more worldwide revenue almost every year... Kovalev-Ward was very poorly promoted and very badly judged.. But those 2 problems have plagued Boxing for 150 years... For whatever reason Boxing has always had incompetent and corrupt judges and lousy promoters and it hasn't killed the sport yet... It was a great fight, full of drama, regardless of the horse manure decision. It will do much bigger numbers in the rematch because fans now know that Kovalev is the better boxer and puncher and it's going to be a dramatic, revenge type affair where you can't say for sure who would win.
The Lomachenko-Walters fight is coming next month... If you don't want to see that fight you're a vegetable... The Heavyweight Division is heating up.. Who in the world doesn't want to see great punchers like Joshua, Ortiz, Haye, Parker, and Wilder tangle when they start fighting each other.. There's strong Light Heavyweights coming up as well in Shabranskyy, Beterbiev, Alvarez, and Smith to challenge Ward and Kovalev.. It looks like Golovkin is finally going to be able to track down Jacobs, Saunders, Eubank, and Canelo in the next couple years.. There's some massive Welterweight matches looming with Thurman.. Spence.. Garcia.. Brook.. Porter.. and others.. If Gary Russell can get Frampton, Selby, and Santa Cruz in the ring, he'll light up the feathers.. I think Boxing is a matchmaker's dream right now.. I can't figure out why many of these fights haven't been made already.
Boxing has 2 credibility problems -- very poor judging and also too many mismatches... The first problem can be solved by opening up judging jobs to the general public and getting thousands of applicants.. You test candidates for 20/20 vision, spatial vision, depth perception, intelligence, objectivity, observation, temperament, short-term memory, and check their history and references for diligence, integrity, and honesty.. The top candidates are taught scoring criteria and asked to judge pre-selected fights on video, round by round.. If it costs a couple million to search out great candidates and train some great judges it would be well worth it to the sport.. You have the top judges judging the top fights... The judges who aren't the very best can judge less important fights... If any of them mess up, demote them to lesser fights.
The problem of mismatches shouldn't be too hard to overcome... Boxing commissions could bracket the thousands of professional boxers based on their W/L records and how good their opponents are. You could be restricted to fighting opponents in your bracket until you advance to another bracket.

If you don't like the sport of boxing, then please stop using this forum.
It's incredibly annoying to constantly see your anti-boxing sentiments submitted in every thread of a forum that specialises in discussing boxing.
All weekend you've been slagging off the sport, so why don't you engage in alternative activities, such as relieving your tension by emptying your "essence" into one of your crusty old socks?
