Is Nicholas Walters overpriced?

Post by Ricky_ »

Walters is 5/1 (6.00 decimal or +500 american)

Walters to win by KO/TKO/DQ is 7/1 (8.00 decimal or +700 american)

I fancy Lomachenko to put on a clinic vs Walters, but i'm really surprised by the odds on Walters. Are the bookmakers seriously underestimating his chances? I was expecting something more along the lines of 60/40 in favor, the current odds on Loma of 1.12 put him as a 89% favorite.

Little to know chance Walters will win a decision. But at those odds, I would be tempted if I was a betting man.

Odds are up to you, I think it's a great match up otherwise I wouldn't be there I assure you.
Price I paid for a ticket came to mid $200 U.S and with the Canadian exchange rate came to over $300 but I don't care it's a quality match up and I support our top guns if they're willing to meet.
Lomachenko and Walters meet that criteria.

I agree with OP. Odds on Lomachenko by KO are somewhat attractive, and odds on Walters by any method are really attractive.

You shouldn't care too much what odds makers do.
I could expose these guys so easily and tell you how they operate, they don't care or even know about the sport.
Guess where they get their information ... from guys like you and I that's who.
Half of them don't know nothing about boxing.

Lomo is too good, so no. Walters is a good fighter tho. Just not this good.

I can confirm the lads at 5Dimes know absolutely nothing about combat sports. They dont even have "a guy" for the sports. They borrow their baselines from sister sites.

Really Diddy, what if everytime Walters fought the tv ratings went up by 25% would you favour him then.
You know what I'm talking about ;-)

That's why it's great betting. They couldn't care less. A browns/bears game would have 10 times the action of ward/kovalev.

Oh man I could say so much about these people and how they operate and it would break a lot of hearts and change your world view on things.

I am cheering for Loma and i believe he can dominate Walters and stop him in later rounds. But Walters is dangerous at any second of the fight and being 6:1 betting underdog is too underestimating.

I favor Lomachenko but the odds are ridiculous, because it's a close matchup... Walters is undefeated in 27 pro fights and World Champion caliber.

NW is a superb boxer and puncher with significant height, weight, and reach advantages over Loma... The last time I saw odds this lopsidedly out of kilter was the 1st Holyfield-Tyson fight.. with Tyson an unbelievably prohibitive favorite.. It didn't make any sense.. They were about the same weight with Evander having 3 inches in height and 5 inches in reach.. Evander flattened Buster Douglas early and Douglas dominated and stopped Tyson.. And guys who can box and punch generally beat guys who can punch.. So I thought something funny was going on - something exceptionally weird with those odds, because why wasn't there more Holyfield money??? ... I did bet on Holyfield because I thought it was an even fight at the very worst. A lot of times when Boxing odds are ridiculously skewed and don't make a lot of sense the underdog wins... I don't know why that is, but that's what usually happens.

They looked to be similarly sized at the weigh-in. Three of Walters' last 4 opponents were 5'5 or under, and Nonito and Vic were quite undersized for 126, so maybe that made Walters appear bigger than he is.

His reach is considerably longer than his opponents. And he will share that advantage against Loma as well.

I think he'll be better off taking the fight to Loma and trying to rough him up in close or from mid-range, where Loma can still look a bit uncomfortable when pressed. IMO Walters' chances go down if he tries to win a boxing match from the outside.

It's really hard to believe that a week after Ward - Kovalev, we get Walters - Lomachenko. This is basically the Christmas of boxing. After the drought that was October.
